Why are 939 X2's more expensive than AM2's

I am still using a 64 3200+ which I was hoping to upgrade to a 64 X2 4200+ AM2, but I have seemed to have missed the boat. There is a £40 price difference between socket 939 and AM2. I recon I will just go for a 64 3700+ San Diego which is only £23.49 and should overclock allot better than my early Winchester core. Let’s face it dual core support for gaming is almost non existent and I will have to see it to believe it.

Probably because new 939's are not being developed anymore (last i heard anyway). AM2 are still being made so costs are cheaper because they are less rare.

supply and demand
I have just ordered the 64 3700+ San Diego for £25 which by all accounts is a great overclocker. When my system no longer performs in games only then will I do the big and costly platform upgrade.

my 3700+ is at 3ghz stable 1.475 volts :)
nice - i will get mine tomorrow. Its been over a year since I have been into my bios so I will have to remember how it all works again. What are you using for cooling?

I see the price has just gone up on OcUk to £44.64. I got mine 2 days ago at £25.00

I have just overclocked it to 2.7 without any testing and its booted into windows no probs. So here goes.

Yeah the price goes up and down every few days. Cheapest has been £14.99 + VAT twice over the last few weeks. :)

if you look on certain sites you can pick up 939 3800x2s for around £60, which isnt bad. The one ive got clocks well too, 2.6ghz completely stable atm.

Yep, 3700 was £14.99 from OcUK. Very pleased. Came up to my parents today to upgrade dads computer, went in smoothly. Upgrade from AMD 2400xp, had a spare mobo, so cpu and fan, upgraded for £30 with delivery!

:D

I went straight in without any messing around whacked it up to 2700 and it worked first time no probs. I will now increase this overclock knowing that it is now 100% stable. So much easier to overclock than the early Winchesters.

£15  i grabbed it while it was 29+vat.Still a bargain whatever way you look at it considering i paid 150 a yr ago.
I`m still really pleased with its performance with just a quick 200mhz oc,and ram at 219.
I wrote the biggest track of my life recently with maximum 128 (64) stereo audio tracks,6 vst instruments and midi,fx on just about every channel and it never toiled once.
On my old 2600 barton i got about 4 vsts and 20 audio tracks if i was very lucky.
I`d say one of the biggest differences was the Corsair TWINX2048-3500LLPRO,really made it zippy
