Why are all routers (basically) terrible?

Nothing can be worse than Belkin routers. Haven't used one for quite a few years now but they used to be awful.

I had forgotten how bad Belkin Routers were.
Lol, you used to plug it in, connect to the internet, load one web page and it would self destruct.

In fact I would say the 8800NL was amazing value for how solid it's been. Lots of the same features as the 7800DXL (SNR tweaking etc) but for less than half the price.

Is there any firmware updates for the 8800NL?

Looking at Billon site there doesn't seem to be, and links to the UK specific site just connect to defunct domain with adverts now.

I wasn't overly happy with Belkin in the past but my N600 has been virtually rock solid. So much I'm thinking of getting the AC 1750 version for a mindless upgrade

i'm still using a Linksys WRT610N running dd-wrt. been rock solid for years.

An old PC with that and a decent WiFi adapter will be better than any consumer router. Save some cash too. Got some cool features like caching and active virus check on data packets. The only downsides to it are power consumption from leaving it on 24/7 and that it's not easy to use. Probably a bit over kill if you don't have more than 2 devices too.

You can buy ex corporate stuff on that auction site. Dell SFF or USFF aren't too bad with power consumption.
