Why are certain types of racism tolerated on here?

We all know that words such as "****" and "Chink" are really not on, and not to be tolerarated on here, and rightly so!

Then why are words like Jock, Mick, Taff, Paddy etc. still used? surely what one person finds offensive as a name a brand or a stereotype shouldnt be tolerated either?

I am fed up with being called a "Jock" by people who think its ok (and yes, it does happen on the sports forum) and personally, i would like it to stop. Even worse is the ubiquitous "Sweaty Sock" that some people can see no insult in it at all !!

thanks for listening

:)

by "on here" you mean ocuk?

you havn't read enough threads. it's much worse in other forums...

that illustrates my point. it does happen on here, although not as much as other forums, although it shouldnt happen at all

Ive read the word "chinkies" on here before and I wasnt too pleased but hey im not offended, and the poster didnt mean offense

I can't see a problem with it to be honest, I hardly think calling a scottish person a jock is racist anyway, don't quote me on this but apparently pakistanis aren't bothered if you call them a **** but indians get very annoyed because obviously they aren't pakis as they aren't from pakistan (this stems from a drunken conversation between me, someone from India and someone from Pakistan :p )

your missing the point. it doesnt matter that you dont find it offensive, others do.

sorry I may have given the impression that I was chinese? im not but racism still does offend me a lot....

I'm from essex, I don't get annoyed when people call me essex boy, rude boy, chav, boy racer etc, although I'm not a chav and no one has ever called me it but you get the point, don't know if that's the same thing as being called a jock though

no, because there is no such thing as a "jock"

So if you don't feel worse off for it then why do you care?

If someone called me something that I wasn't ashamed of or was actually insulting then I wouldn't care.

I'd only get upset if someone actually made fun of or highlighted something I was already hung up on.

its a very personal viewpoint.

i think its offensive, and even if people dont understand why i find it offensive, they should respect the fact that i do, an refrain from using it
