WHY ARE HDDS SO EXPENSIVE?!

floods in thailand, wiped out all the hdd factories pushing up prices

i bought my samsung f4 2tb for £46,only gripe is not buying 3 or 4 at the time

The company now believes its manufacturing capacity will be back to pre-flood capabilities in the quarter ending September 2012.
Good job i brought 4 2TB drives before the floods.

Think there should be a sticky in regards to this. Also the warranty periods have been shortened

Wow, I just read, THIS is terrible.
Makes having to pay a little extra for some harddrives feel like nothing compared to what these Thai people have gone through

For the Thai people, family members have been lost, lives uprooted and homes destroyed. Many have been left without food and shelter.

It just a shame that all the money from these extra price increases don't go to help these people rebuild there lives/homes :(

Yes it's just because services suddenly cost more after a crisis... although saying that Western Digital are doing a 1-for-1 match on donations through their channel to the charity; if you donate say £20 to the cause WD will match it. That's nice.

The problem seems to be that they can't get the quantity of components that they require
