Why are modern car adverts so tame & soulless?

Seriously, why is there no passion about how well the car performs ... they don't show some hard acceleration, hard cornering, a nice B road blast with tyre squeal, etc.

Things are either bland, or do they something stupid like that old hide and seek advert :(

I've seen "The Hire" stuff, now that was some proper car adverts.

As for them not being allowed, show me where it says that within any of the ASA guidelines or rulings?
If the car companies put a little bit of text "the actions here were filmed on a closed road and are not to be performed on open roads" then they are fine surely.

It's common in every thread he posts in - he'll challenge even the most fundamental of conventions with just 'Well thats stupid they can do it this way'. Even if its a thread on nuclear power stations or something.

The only thing there is are CAP self-regulations and a statement that ASA are there to enforce things on behalf of OFCOM ... there isn't actually anything that states what the legal regulation is ...

You can challenge ASA via the legal courts though, there isn't really a legal framework what is OK and isn't OK for adverts, all the rules are self-regulations for the most part, with some carrying weight due to them being co-created with OFCOM

It doesn't need to give hard and fast details, the adverts just need to be ... you know car adverts. Of cars doing fast car things (if they are such cars).

Who wants to watch an RS4 going around town in an advert, I want to see the RS4 going full beans through a forest somewhere being chased by an army of bad guys

Who buys an RS4 because of a TV advert anyway?

Who buys anything because of an advert? Adverts are there to spread awareness of the brand/product ... not to sell it to people really.

Cars such as RS4 and other fun thing are generally targeted at men ... and men who buy those kind of cars probably tend to remember cool car action sequences rather than boring around town stuff.

Motoring advertisements must not demonstrate power, acceleration or handling characteristics except in a clear context of safety.
So you can get away with doing power slides ... by having adverse weather conditions and thus using the good handling as a context of safety of the vehicle in bad weather conditions

The line you've quoted from the regulations basically prevents everything you want to see in adverts.

Your question has been answered, stop fighting the system.

Imagine this ...
Car is following a truck carrying gravel/snow/whatever
Truck suddenly dumps the stuff on a bend, car end up sliding ... but the driver controls it thus demonstrating how good handling is an important safety feature

What do you know, you just did a powerslide and did so in the name of safety

Your example is pathetic.

Powersliding is a lack of grip anyway, demonstrating lack of grip isn't a safety thing.

Demonstrating the car having predictable handling is though, thus behind able to easily control the slide is a handling thing and thus is a safety thing
