Why are my son's specs better than mine?

It's not a competition, honest :o

Specs:-

Me:

AMD Phenom II X4 955
8 GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600 Mhz
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770

Son:

Intel Core2 Quad Q8300
4 GB DDR2 RAM @ 800 Mhz
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770

I don't understand the difference in 2D and 3D performance tests given that it is the same card.

Tests run without any overclocks. Could it be a PSU issue?

Any advice appreciated :D

Hmm strange, Couple of thoughts - does your cpu run at full speed when the tests were done also have you tried with only 4gb of ram.

Or could be Intel is far superior than AMD!! :p

If it was at 3200 then not a C&Q issue probably... possibly a powerplay issue but thats one I'm not upto speed on.

Win7 vs Win vista..

ill bet thats the root cause - that and passmark is iffy at the best of times. run it on xp/98 for super fast 2d results, run the hdd bench 3-4 times in a row to magically gain 20%... etc :)

More importantly why are you concerned? Is your game performance lower than his?*

*this could be down to slower reaction and general old age :D

Just blame the software, say there's a bug in it or something and it’s biased towards Intel setups, that’s what half of us do around here when a benchmark doesn’t go our way.

Are both CPU's running at stock? Try disabling the power saving features in the BIOS, also see if you can find other scores from users with the same sort of setup as you to see if your results are comparable.
