Why are some 3090's only hitting ~14k GPU in Timespy bench on 3960x?

My little 3950X PC can run games that would flatten any intel based PC. If you don't believe me try playing "Master of Orion" on max settings in a huge galaxy about 400 turns in, it is a very sad sight on an intel setup.
.
I think you are wasting your time typing @Kaapstad. Until peeps have actually used high core count cpu's like the 3950x, they really do not have any comprehension of the gameplay difference it makes.

My 3950X has impressive multi core performance but it also is very good on old single core games played on huge settings.

Where the single core performance is impressive is because it does it at quite low clockspeeds and is much more efficient compared to intel CPUs when you get very late into the games.

If you play Master of Orion with huge settings in a massive Galaxy on intel CPUs once you get to about turn 300 you can cook a meal and take a shower between turns lol. On the other hand if you use a 3950X the game remains quite playable.

I do agree with you that I am wasting my time typing because unless someone has experienced the above and used the hardware they just don't believe you.:)

In a weird coincidence my real name is Robert Noyce, for a laugh intel users could google it.:D

Yep. There always has been issues with turn times, mainly between 280 and 300 onwards. It applies to all low core count sku's really, AMD or Intel. But you are correct, the efficiency of zen mixed with a high core count keeps Master of Orion absolutely playable even up to turn 500 (not that i myself have actually got to turn 500 :D, my son has).
Things like this only become obvious through actually using a cpu. It's all well and good for some smartass to come up with graphs that "prove" a cpu is faster.........................but if that cpu is taking 15mins at turn 300..................it clearly isn't faster than a 3950x.

And good morning Mr Noyce :D

I have tried doing the same with my 3950X Ryzen CPU and the results are not as good, I think AMD CPUs work a bit differently.

If you really want to give your whole system a good test try running Timespy Extreme as this caters for CPUs like yours and gives a much bigger score.
So it's normal for results to be horrendous on the non extreme versions for 3950x and 3090/ti ? I thought I might have had an issue as GPU score was incredibly low however scores are totally within the average on the extreme versions and Port Royal ?

What I posted in the 30 series thread

Is Port Royal the go to benchmark for these cards ? I just accidentally bought a 3090 Ti and I've been running some 3dMark benches, Port Royal gives me pretty much bang on the average result running the card at stock, the other benches aren't quite as good though, for instance Time Spy I'm getting half the average score for the GPU and Time Spy Extreme it's about 10% below average, is this due to CPU bottleneck given the Port Royal result seems fine ? I do need to go back to CPU settings as the mobo bios update to allow for resizeable bar and it's set everything back to stock so only things I have changed are making sure the Pci slot is set to Gen 4 and allowing for resize bar

On the Time Spy I notice CPU is hitting 100% while GPU is 50% at most, so I guess it's a CPU throttle issue and given the Port Royal result the card is okay so I don't need to troubleshoot that ?

edit - Fire Strike Ultra was at the average score for GPU/CPU combo as well, so why is Time Spy being so weird ?

I used to run a 2950X+3090 & when games jump across, ccx the fps went all over the place. firestrike score used to be low i swapped over to a 5900x and had a massive boost with same GPU.
