Why are we not allowed medical threads?

Last time a thread asked for medical advice someone kindly shared a link to another forum where someone took advice from the internet and ended up with her nose dissolving...

Does anybody know what I'm on about? Trying to show a mate :)

I know a recipe to create crystals, it only involves copper coins, baking soda, ammonia and bleach...

I think the people who fall for these things are brain dead anyway.

I do love collecting crystals. Can you expand on the method?

Thx in advance

But then why isn't there a "no legal advise" rule?

Reality is no one is getting sued in either case.

I think it's a PR thing.

It's not good copy to have your company website being the reason someone died from giving themselves a mustard enema (should have used English  )

Bad legal advice rarely leads directly to death. Bad medical advice on the other hand, could.

Who knows really? Them's just the rules.

I do not think it's PR, if it was there would be less tolerance of the; racist, homophobic, sexist, xenophobic threads and generally a lot less of the political threads.

It's unlikely for one of our regular anti-muslamic threads to hit the press. Death of, in particular, a teenager due to terrible medical advice might.

If you need medical advice go to organisations that are geared up to provide it.

Whilst there maybe a few medics on here, there are far more armchair advice givers who could end up killing you or causing you harm.

Might be something to do with the owners responsibility.

Its an open forum and the owner is responsible for anything that is posted (hence lots of moderators). Its why there is a swear filter too.

I'm on a forum that is not viewable to anyone unless you are a member. There are no restrictions on what you post as its the T&C that you accept that content may be of an adult nature and offensive (its a gaming forum, nothing dodgy). The owner has it set like that so he can't be held responsible for what people post.

At least thats my understanding.

Besides, if you need medical advice, see a doctor
