Doing 120+ MPH throughout a journey is reckless and dangerous in my opinion and I am glad we don't have that here in the UK!
Have the autobahns changed then? It used to be that the "any speed" bits only applied to 3-lane sections, and all the 2-lane bits had 150kph limits (or lower).
That said, yes, the danger in the unrestricted bits lies in the speed difference between lane 2 (usually about 80mph) and lane 3 (anything goes). You can legitimately look in your mirror, see an empty road for half a mile back, pull out, and find a Porsche stuck to your back bumper flashing its lights.

Same stance from me, I drive to the conditions and my ability, so whatever speed that is so be it.
If I so happen to be speeding and get caught, so be it, my fault and so be it. I've never had an accident related to speed on the road and I don't intend on doing so, just drive safe and to both your own and the vehicle limits, not beyond.![]()
I tend to do this also.
I worry about getting stopped, I ask myself would I just lie and say "yes officer, I'm so sorry, you're right speed kills, I won't do it again" or just be honest with him "sorry mate but the limits are a load of rubbish, I don't agree with a lot of them and I won't be changing my driving style, just give me my ticket so I can be on my way".
I mean I expect the second to result in a lot more aggro but I also don't really want to lie to a law enforcement officer.
Definitely say the first one. It's all very well sticking to your principals, but I'd much rather have a few minutes of patronising talk and a clean licence, than no patronising talk but points, higher insurance, speed awareness courses etc.
Is the first really likely to see me let off though?
Interesting read.
I can certainly agree with the statement where driving to a very low limit (40 on a previously NSL road) just makes me switch off and daydream along
A slightly different thought for you guys.
Just imagine we could actually convince all drivers to keep to the existing speed limits. How many months before the speed cameras would be disabled due to lack of funding?
This is what really gets me. Most drivers I see breaking the limit do it by enough to get nicked, but not enough to make a significant difference to actual travel times.
In short the average pleb motorist is funding the running of a camera network that has destroyed the occasional genuine bout of fun on our roads. Annoys the hell out of me.

Lucky you, thats not what I see.
Most of my drives covering say 30 and 40mph sections will include at least one muppet who'll drive at 35mph through both sections. Drives me nuts, as said driver is likely to be one of the people who is helping to fund the speed cameras that has screwed over driving for fun.
