why aren't western digital making SSDs?

after all their history with raptors aimed at the niche home performance sector they haven't branched into SSDs?!

Or perhaps they're working on bringing something better.

The home market is still pretty small, and crowded - so margins aren't great and there's not a huge incentive for them to get involved now.
They have the SiliconEdge range though, and I expect they are developing better controllers. Once they have something that can be competitive, they'll release it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them buy out someone like STEC, who make high performance drives for the enterprise market.
