Why buy a 480 instead of 460's in SLI

Look at the BC2 launch: loads of multi-GPU issues, had people whinging for months even if there were fixes available. The advantage of one (very fast) GPU is a much lesser chance of running into game-ruining glitches/bugs/etc. It happens on nearly every new game.

yea Arma 2 OA needs to be hacked to allow SLI to work :( anyways after a long debate on how i should spend my OWN BLOOMING money with the missus, i have got the green light to buy a 480 at the end of the month :)

My Seasonic M12 600W psu should be fine right lads? currently got a i7 920 cpu clocked at 3.3ghz, 3gb of ram 4 hdds and 6 case fans hehe

pro

-cheapest way to 3 display gaming. Tho for the price you could look into the HD5870

-physx and 3D (over ati offerings)

Cons

-reliance on drivers. Unless sli in a game is supported in drivers you could be left with one card

-a single 480 can have another added when prices drop. A 460 everything needs to be upgraded

I was looking into sli460 vs HD5870 and while the HD5870 is slower it allows multimonitors and an option of upgrading with crossfire. I also have a 600w PSU and an overclocked phenom 955 with 2 X 460s is hitting around 550W on power calculators (allowing for overclocking and 10% in reported power draw also using a different card with similar power draw). personally I would rather have more overhead for effenciency and cause less stress on the psu.

If I had the personal choice the 460 sli would get my vote followed by the HD5870. Tho advice wise I would normally say fastest single card depending what you want (5870 for eyefinity, 480 for physx and 3D) but since the 460 offer all its impossible not to recommend ahead of the other 2
