Why cant i call a desktop icon this

If i make a new folder on my desktop and try to call it "prn" (i didnt find this out by mis-spelling porn, i promise), it reverts back to the old name.

This is under Windows XP.

Anyone know why

It got invaded after i posted it on another forum

Basically it breaks DOS if you have file some file names named like con and prn because they can't be interpreted when calling them outright...
