why cant i play Fallout 3 ?

I had some crashes but what worked (sort of) is that as soon as it would crash I would not use that save anymore as it looks like a crash corrupts a save.

So I save a lot and regularly backup my saves.

DLC is actually more stable than the vanilla game luckily, most crashes I had were in the wasteland.

I've just done a (system) re-install and fallout 3 is now crashing all over the place. My old install was fairly solid, crashed once a week maybe.

Whats more it feels like the game is more likely to crash the further you are from your last save point. No pattern to the crashes either.

Maybe there is some sort of memory leak at times, I noticed that Fallout3.exe was using >1GB of RAM with my videocard also using close to 1GB at one time.

A mate of mine bought Fallout 3 for me over steam recently. I just can't get into it and I'm really trying. It doesn't seem as good as Oblivion to me and I think I know why. The landscape is just dull. I don't want to explore it like I wanted to venture off into forest in Oblivion. Sure, it's set after nuclear war and I get that it's meant to feel that way. Just doesn't do it for me.

I'm also pretty unimpressed by the way your actions seem to have no impact on the immediate behaviours of npcs. For example, I went to the tenpenny tower and went up to the top balcony with the mr burke dude and his boss. Instead of nuking megaton I decided to pull a combat shotgun and kill them both right there and then. I was then just able to calmly walk out of the tower and not one guard ever reacted.

Also, in that Irish guys bar in megaton I shot the place up and killed him. The woman and the ghoul just didn't react and when I spoke to them they talked about him (now dead) like he was alive.

I get that the scope of it means stuff like this has to be expected but I swear Oblivion was just better at creating a clearer path for you based on your actions. I dunno, it just isn't the great game people say it is imo.
