Why consoles Anymore?

If you already have a decent specced pc there's no need at all to get an Xbox. At worst you might need a new GPU, which will be cheaper than the console.

But if your like me and all you have is a laptop without a discreet GPU it's much less clear. But it's all down to cost.

Id like to build a gaming rig, but can I afford it? The new Xbox will be a fraction of the cost of a full build.

i think i mis-typed the questions a little. my meaning for this Qs was if you already had a PC and what you would miss if you didnt get a console
In that case - nothing. I personally found the exclusives (PS4) to be meh overall and even the ones I did find interesting enough to play I just gave up on due to technical issues (eg HZD low fov). I ended up regretting getting a console but luckily I could sell it off for near what I paid, so at least it wasn't much of a $ loss. I was disappointed as I really wanted to like it at first but in the end it's just too limited & cumbersome.

console is just a fifa box for many, console will still be more popular because its almost impossible to cheat

I really like having an xbox in the living room and a PC in the office. If I'm playing a play anywhere title its great being able to play downstairs until someone else needs the tv and then resume in the office from where I left off.

I'm probably not going to bother with these consoles at launch and upgrade my pc graphics instead. I think if you are starting from scratch the next gen consoles are a no brainer, XSX in particular will be able to play this gen of games in amazing fidelity and I fully expect MS up update FH4 to 120FPS and GOW5 to 60fps.

I'll say my PC will take a back seat for the first couple of years of next-gen while those devices are fresh and new. I'll be buying most of my stuff for XSX and PS5 and probably building a fresh, new PC in about 2023 rather than upgrade piecemeal. I have no qualms about double-dipping with games, I certainly get my money's worth out of them.

Mine was a Halo box :p
Now i have 4 copies of H2 to my name as Halo is back on PC.

I did think of another thing, blu ray drive + remote. Don't know if the new consoles support the newer gen blu ray?
The game pass ultimate is supposed to allow all hardware, (phones etc), support their new streaming service. The whole back catalog is pretty cool, but not a fan of having loads of subscription services myself.

My gpu is very discreet...it never tells my missus about the dodgy sites I visit

If you look at the younger generation you would think consoles are the way forward. I wouldnt let my two have a console (nasty boring things ;)) so I built them two decent 1080p machines (both with 6 core i5 8500, one with RTX 2060, one with GTX 1060, 16gb RAM) quite a few of the components I got from, ahem, work but probably cost me about £600 total inc 2x 75mhz gaming monitors as I got some bargains too.

Main games seem to be Roblox and Fortnite amongst their school mates, cousins and Football team mates. Both cross play. Some have Xbox's, some have PS4's, some have Switch, quite a few have more than 1 console and I join in Fortnite games every so often. Most of their friends have said they wish they had a gaming PC instead of a console but the latter was bought mainly due to the parents and it being an easier choice. These could be the PC Gaming users of the future once they start earning.

Ever since I played Diablo 1 multiplayer I've basically equated multiplayer PC games with cheating.

Even tho I primarily game on PC, I only ever play SP games.

The few times I've giving MP on the PC another try, bam, there are all the cheaters again.

What's the point in being the "superior" platform, if every game is crammed to the rafters with cheats? Having a kb+mouse won't help you when all the other players use kb+mouse+aimbot+wallhack+noclip+ ....

e: Even my favourite ever MMO - EverQuest - was plagued by cheats. Cheats who could make themselves invincible, kill bosses from the other side of the zone without reprisals, dupe currency and items to all hell and back, etc, etc.

PC gaming with other people = lots of cheating.

Depends on the game I tend to find the more traditional deathmatch conquest fps have been abandoned by the cheaters for games like warzone.

I've uninstalled warzone and gone back to battlefield etc as always in the back of my mind in warzone is was that person wallhacking.I could easily run around with wallhack in that game and never get caught or banned ever I'd just not be too obvious and keep the K/D lower.

The cheats seem to work so good almost like devs release the cheats.I guess somehow wazrzone makes them money no idea how though maybe they plan on a one off text charge per warzone activation via phone thus creating the cheater economy.

Exactly the same as me

I play single player games in my PC, and occasionally play multiplayer on console.

PCs also have the potential issue of drivers and updates causing issues. Consoles are merely plug and play.
people always say that.

what are you guys doing to your pcs? cos I almost never have issues, very rarely do I update drivers.

my nvidia drivers are usually months out of date

most new consoles usually the first model has a ton of issues

no idea either but i update every few weeks

Have not had a console since the ps1. It's good to see more console exclusives coming to pc e.g. rdr2 but I've never really felt the need to buy a console just for a few extra games. Tend to play vr, sims, rts so it is no contest when it comes to pc.
I never really understood why there has not been a good boxing game on pc though. I remember right night on ps2 was always good fun

lets see how this changes when the new consoles come out. the thing is mostly for gamers the only reason mainly people dont go console only is because of no keyboard mouse support or a lack of it. if there was full mouse and keyboard support pcs for gaming would drop off quickly. at some point this will happen. one box under the tv that does all is the simpliest answer.

controller sales and other things must stop this from happening as full mouse and keyboard support would be a massive sales pitch but obviously it isnt as good as controller only. for some financial reasons to the companies selling consoles or it would have happened already.

new consoles and older consoles are just pcs anyway.

....... Because Nvidia insist on charging £1000+ for a decent GPU ;)
Good luck building a 4k gaming PC for £400-500 :D

Personally these days I'd rather just buy a light portable laptop for computing tasks (connected to an external display/mouse when required) and use my Playstation/Nintendo for gaming.

Much cheaper, more convenient, less time consuming than maintaining and updating a gaming PC.
