Hi,

I'm 27 and for the past few months Ive had a number of days of sick since starting a new job...

It all came to boiling point this morning after a crap night and suddenly having caught the flu after 6 weeks of going into work (apart from the beginning of this week) i thought SOD this Im gonna quit because I feel so ashamed and poorly about having to take so much time off...

I spoke to my M.D. he told me not to worry and why was I even worried..

He said Im sure you didnt ask for the FLU you just have bad luck etc...

Told me to return to work when I get better..

I was telling him Ive had enough, Im so ashamed , Im all over the place because this is not like me, Im not a "sicknote" etc etc and that its not fair on them / his company...

he reassured me not to worry and that there was no problem his end, he even told me to change my DR cuz my current one sounds awful....

WHY WOULD HE DO THIS? or am i just a sketcy skeptical individual who is being ungrateful for what he said..I am having trouble understanding this so please help...

P.S. I would like to add I dont get paid for not going in...they dont do sick pay etc..

You're not costing the company any money when you're not there and, when you are there, he obviously thinks your good and wants to keep hold of you. Sounds like you're finding excuses to quit though IMHO.

WOW

BINGO!!!

NOW WHY DOES MY BRAIN HAVE TROUBLE ABOUT DIGESTING THIS??? raaaaaaaaaaaar

its just that when I was supposed to start I had the cough from hell which I still have that delayed my start date for 3 weeks...

Then I worked 6 weeks constant, no messing around and now this...

I was calling in to RESIGN coz I felt like such a "sicknote" but he totally convinced me against it before I even suggested it...

Am I that lucky to have an understanding, kind, compassionate guvnor?

I just dont get it

perhaps i am paranoid but when your stuck in a rut its hard to see why this company keeps you when they could so easily tell you to get on yer bike...

i just dont get it...

my god, don't be such a wet tissue

if you're ill, you're ill.
if you don't infect yourself, or don't skive, but genuinly ill, stop crying about it.

By saying to your MD "oh, im ill, i shouldn't be, i'm sorry, i'll leave" - you just sound like an idiot. He's an MD - he knows people get ill.

And if you plan to have more than three days off sick, you'll start to get Statutory Sick Pay

its a new job , its easy for him to tell me where to go, what i dont understand is that why doesnt he?

in previous jobs thats precisely what I have seen, therefore mentally I am seeking that ulterior motive..

like i said

he's a MD
he's managed staff before
he's realised that people do get genuinely ill
he has no reason to suspect anything afoul?
IT HAPPENS
Any half decent company wouldn't get rid of someone they've interviewed and employed because they've fallen ill within the first few months.

either you're far too paranoid, or you've been employed by cowboys beforehand.

Stop worrying, focus on getting better and showing them you are worth the chance given!

What possible ulterior motive could there be?

They are keeping you on so that they can fire you when you do get better and back to work?

Get a grip I think the flu is affecting your brain.

Panzer

Suerly you still want this job for when your better? If your really ill you wont be able to work elsewere anyway at the moment so whats the problem. It's far easier to take you back when your better than train someone new.

Your upside down view of the world is really quite bizzare.

Take a chill pill mate. I think your getting a little too paranoid. There is no reason why they would get rid of you if you are genuinely ill. It's winter and people generally get the flu this time of year and your MD understands that.

Breath in, Breath out. Breath in, Breath out.

Sissy!
you are 27, you are not a child who is institutionalised into thinking that you are worthless! Yet you cannot rationalise your boss's way of thinking?!
Your attitude indeed proves that you ARE lucky to have a boss like this, because having an employee who has no self-worth is not a quality i'd look for in one of my staff!
Get better, get back to work, stops analysing the fact that someone has the kahunas to believe in you and get on with your job and life!

Good luck to you :)

I think you should leave... it's a complete disgrace the way you are treating your new employer!!!

i think someones been drinking to much coffee. your boss is just excepting your ill its that time off year he doesnt want the rest of the staff ill and thinks ** hard working when your in simple. now chill out stop the coffee and get soe shut eye.
