Yep, I'd say for defo that's real.
It is indeed a male Pheasant of the very, very dead kind. It would easily do that to the windscreen at the right velocity.
Has anyone seen the pics of the car that hit a moose? Now that was messy.

It was a deer and its kidney was sitting in the boot
If you hit a moose they turn around and then finnish the car off

Short driver. Or they ducked. Don't forget this is an SUV with seats designed for a 6'3" redneck. So someone like my 5'0" wife wouldn't get much more than about 2/3 the way up that seat. And if they cringed when they threw the anchor out the door (slammed on the brakes) they would be even shorter.
