Why didn't Intel make any extreme CPU's on the 1150 socket?

Don't see the problem with it myself - IMO it makes sense to keep the mainstream parts of one platform and the "extreme" setup on another platform - though I do wish they'd get a bit more life out of a socket these days - I really can't be bothered pulling my motherboard out or doing a whole system upgrade that frequently these days but happy enough to change a CPU out now and again.

6 core is hardly extreme.... intel should be pushing out 8 core as mainstream by now.

What'd be the point? They're so in control in a dominating way.
They're chucking a bunch of money into Atom stuff, and we're benefiting from it (Surface 3 Atom for example, what a piece of kit) too. I'm happy with them to continue as they are, as long as it doesn't end up compromising users (Can't offer enough performance at the higher end etc)

When it comes to performance Intel's 6/8 core processors are unrivalled, AMD can't even match their 4 core procesors in many applications. With dominance like that Intel can afford to keep 4 core processors mainstream.

its abit tedious and confusing to have all these different chipsets and then different sockets.

and for power users half the chipsets can be described as "avoid"
