As Jim said, they are trackbacks.

If you are using wordpress like the site in the OP you can do the following.

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/07/23/10-wordpress-comments-hacks/

Read point 2 on that article to seperate pings and trackbacks from real comments.

That was relevant. Had you even bothered to look at the examples posted by the OP instead of being a smart arse you would realise this.

Maybe you should stop posting for a day and concentrate on your daughter.

You suggested the OP was an idiot because he can't magically fill in the blanks either side of an excerpt from a blog entry.

Of course you didn't know what the blanks were, you just assumed he should have known and proceeded to post he was an idiot, regardless. This is arrogance and ignorance.

People aren't going out of their way to "attack" you, but you have to step back and see some of the stuff you post. In this instance you really ought to have checked out the link NathanE posted. You would have known right there and then your first assumption was wrong.

Actually on the subject of this thread, I hate trackbacks. I start reading it, get interested, then end up having to go read a whole other blog. Somewhat similar to the link clicking syndrome you get on Wikipedia
