Why do English people struggle too pronounce words proper

I think click is the American pronunciation of clique - I was very puzzled for a while a year back and looked into it.

Its how the Americans pronounce it, so it's what people here when they watch TV shows and movies with the word clique.

Its because no-one gives a toss about learning anymore, so they dont pay attention in English classes and they sure as hell don't read much - or even look up words they dont know in those books in a dictionary to find out how to pronounce them. On top of that there is no (or wasnt any when I was in secondary school 5 years ago) any encouragement to read out loud, so when one does do some reading, the pronunciation is never learnt.

This and the never-ending diet of American media.

I think it has far more to do with the proliferation of American media then anything else. We can either be lazy and let the American pronunciations take root, or else we can take a French attitude and staunchly defend the differences.
