Why do I get this window when I insert a disc?

Whenever I insert a disc I cannot read it and get this message. I then have to click next and go through as if Im going to format it, then I get the message "this disk is write protected" it exits and I can read the disc.

Any ideas?

Using Vista 32bit with a pioneer Dvdrw drive.

Any advice appreciated

if you know there's data on the disc, then use ISObuster to explore the disc and extract the data

I can read the disc after going through the above process, I was just wondering if I had accidentally enabled something that caused it to happen everytime a dvd/cd-r/rw was inserted.

theres an optin in windows somewhere where you can select fr4omt he disk insertt options one option that will run every time instead of giving you a choice. In contorl pans I think. Maybe you enabled that by accident

yea i would say you've selected "burn disc" setting everytime a disc is inserted
