For a tiny example.....
You can tell if someone has lived in London by the mere observation of their behaviour on the escalator and which side they stand.
You clearly don't know many travelled people.
OK, so we are imagining things completely differently. I was thinking nice areas of Z1-2, not 3 onwards.Crystal Palace, Penge, Some areas of Camden, Ealing, Chiswick, etc. etc.
What makes you think that?

I know plenty of people who have visited London and other places and would say that London isn't their favourite or the best place. I find it unbelievable that everyone you know that has been to London found it to be the best place they've ever been.

The very cheapest 3 bed house in Camden on http://www.rightmove.co.uk is in excess of £300k. You need in excess of £500k for somewhere that looks reasonably nice, and you aren't going to be buying one of those if you're not on good money.
and on the contrary, the most well travelled person I know (most major cities across the world) considers London the greatest city on Earth. Though, he did always say it was for the young or the wealthy.
There is a big difference between £24,000 and £100,000.but on national average, it's hard to be out all the time. You would have a better standard of living in Manchester on the same salary.
You can do it without six figures.Btw, when I put 6 figures...I want to live in Richmond.![]()
Again, this totally depends on your expectations. I earn pretty well for my age (more than the figures you've quoted), live at home with my parents for free, yet do not consider myself particularly wealthy and seek a greater disposable income. As a single person, you'll need to be earning around £30-40k to live well and have fun.

Am I the only one who doesn't give two ****s about the Olympics being in the UK? Take all the boring sports that don't usually get coverage because, you guessed it - they're boring - and dominate TV with them for a month. Fantastic.
PMKeates and DJ_Jestar have just perfectly illustrated why your expectations of what constitutes a nice area or a decent quality of life are a huge factor in whether living in London is attainable for sensible money![]()

We (couple) live in Hampstead for a LOT less than that, nice (small) flat, eat well, go out to restaurants, cinema and save a big chunk of cash every month. It's green, safe, great services and twenty minutes into town.
