Edit: if someone started mumbling the words to pretty much anything from Greenday's American idiot album you'd instantly notice it and probably realise what song it was from.
Yep, and I'd want to rip their throat out for humming trashy, pseudo-political crap music :p

not always, but
It does have to entertain and interest you.
Not always.

Hard-fi do manage to entertain me though, else I wouldn't listen.

What is it about the music you find entertaining though??

And Greenday shout about the establishment.....that's what punk rock is. That's the whole point of it. Also if you listen to it most of what they sing about actually happened :p
Not to mention the fact they've been going longer than i care to remember, they probably know a bit more about music than anyone here does.

I'm sorry, you're not trying to argue that Greenday are a great band are you?

No idea. I like listening to it and thats enough for me.

Its just a shame that they went so far downhill so fast. I mean, their first couple of albums were actually pretty good.

Bet they don't know what I like and why :)

i'd put a hefty bet on you not knowing why; if you're anything like me in that respect you wont have a clue!!

I said in the same post that I didn't know ;)

All I know is what I like and what I don't. Can't tell you why for either.

Except for metal, I don't like metal because its **** :p

Gilly is like the anti-Raikiri... my arch nemesis :p

Oh and hard-fi are crap, greenday used to be alright but nothing special (certainly better than hard-fi)

yeah. You wanna know the main reason for the response of i just like it u dunno why? Because everyone else does and you dont wanna see yourself as a sheep. If you like somehting, there is ALWAYS a reason, no matter how trivial there is a reason.

Tbh i think most people like bands like that do so because everyone else apears to because they're the "in thing" to listen to

Edit: post count = 1024 :o well i never.....

you sang/danced to RATM...there's a small hole i can exploit (oh the sexual connotations!!)

yes, there's a reason, but that reason is mostly "it sounds wicked". you cant explain why something is pleasurable to you when it hits your ear. it just sounds good to you.

in a lot of cases, i'd agree, but judging by the context, you appear to be inferring this about people in this thread, and i know this to be untrue of the majority posting herein.

Rubbish.

I didn't deny the fact that there's a reason.

I just don't know it.

Oh please.

I absolutely hate the music-snobbery of "why on Earth do people like this band I hate" sometimes. Some people just can't seem to accept it when people like different music to them, or heaven forbid, a large group of people like it too. Guess what, they like it because that's their taste.

I don't like most pop, and I think it's watered down pre-fabricated rubbish, but I still accept that a large collection of people out there like it far more than me, and that's why it's popular. Sheep be damned.

"most people that like bands like that" that's a global statement and obviously could cover this thread but i know many non-virtual people who do just this. It's just a pattern i have spotted over the last few months, the people that tend to listen to hard-fi are girls. whether its a thing that guys don't get i dunno but Gilly is like the first bloke i've met that doesn't think the same as me.
I don't much like panic at the disco either, but that's another thread :p

I can accept that people like other things. But 99.99999% do so for a reason. OR can offer some positive point in defence. I have seen no positive remarks about Hard-fi so far other than "i just like them" which can be both positive or negative...

*points to title* i want to know WHY people like them. It doesn't say "why are hard-fi so appalingly crap i want to kill them all" Admittedly that IS my opinion but i'm not imposing it on anyone.

Ahhh, so you're a sheep then. You dislike them because other guys do.

But despite how much some people seem insistent on trying, you CAN'T just filter down music into nicely packageable boxes and define such complex things as why people like them. There are so many different types of music out there, and because of the sheer number of artists/bands, every line is blurred by somebody or other. But at some point you'll like one band, but not another who sound very much like them, but are subtly different. And half of the time, it's near impossible to simply define why with a nice straightforward statement.

I mean, why do people like one song off an ablum, but not another? Why do a lot of people prefer RATM to Audioslave, and not simply because they prefer Zach's rapping? Why do I think Steal This Album is SOAD's best album, when everybody else thinks it's the worst of the lot? I don't know why, I just do.
