Why do people pointlessly drive slowly?

Sure you didn't just pull out on him when he was doing 70 and you were doing all of 5 causing him to have to slow down rather than waiting until he had passed?

Possibly but the distance was pretty big. I'm a new driver I could learn from this I guess and maybe wait.

He was wrong anyway since he was doing over the speed limit though.

Wow do you have a radar gun in your car? If you cause another driver to change course/speed/whatever you shouldn't of pulled out, end of.

He was not in the wrong. You are!

The highway-code states you should only pull out when its clear and safe to do so and you won't cause other drivers to have to slow down.

Your a new driver, let this be a lesson because the next time the person you pull out on might not have quick enough reactions to slow down in time and he will either t-bone you or drive right up your chuff.

Only pull out if you can do so with effecting anyone elses driving, so what if he is speeding, you are not the law, if he wants to speed he can do so, does not make it right for you to pull out and possibly cause an accident.

Ah sorry, you're right. A lot to learn with driving even after a few months! It's just a bit annoying coming out of work sometimes can take up to 10 mins when nobody lets us out.:p

Well yep been there, just a case of when you do pull out give it everything its got, just make sure you warmed your engine up first. ;)

Sometimes when people do that to me I think if I had enough money I'd just drive into the back of them, not braking, to teach them a lesson. It is unbelievably infuriating, one of the most annoying and frustrating things anyone can do on the roads. Especially when there is nothing behind you and nothing coming the either way so they'd only have to wait a few seconds.

Can't agree more. When I had the 525i shed on roundabout if people tried cutting into my lane I'd just not move and just say to myself if you want to crash then I am game. Obviously in the EVO I'd rather not take the risk of them forcing their way in, but in the 525i I just held my ground.

Don't get me wrong if they put their indicator on, politely manevoured I will happily let someone in. But its the ones who seem to do it on purpose and its those when I was in the 525i or even the 306 I just hold my ground as I don't care if they crash into me, they are in the wrong.

Roundabouts you see it a lot people seem to use the whole roundabout not caring if they might cut you up or cause you to move out of their way, it was times like this where the 525i was very useful. :D

Hope when someone does crash into you they get 50-50.

Thats probably the way it would go, but might prevent them from doing it to the next poor person on the road who keeps to their lane on a roundabout and does not selfishely cut across lanes cutting up people whilst doing so.

The only people cutting lanes on roundabouts is trucks or large vehicles that can't keep to those lanes and I give them plenty of room. But people in cars/vans cuttings lanes there is simply no need, why should I be the one who has to take action to move out of their way to prevent an accident. Can't they just drive within the lanes themselves? If they are in the wrong lane whats wrong with indicating, why do they have to muscle their way in?

I had one last week. Was driving along at the limit (60) and caught up with this car doing about 40. The road was wide, straight and clear so I moved over and overtook still at 60. As I pulled in they gave me repeated flashes of their headlights. wtf?

Equally annoying are the people who drive along at 60, then catch up with a something going a lot slower like a caravan then just sit there and accept that 40 or whatever is now the speed of the road. Are they all under the impression that overtaking is illegal?

Just different people I guess.

Sometimes I have caught cars up on country roads and the car in front has moved over to make more room for me to pass safely. These are the good drivers on the road and I pass and give them a wave plus a flash of my hazards to safe thank you.

Then as like you say you get the ones who seem to think that you overtaking then is some kind of crime and they flash lights at you or give you a ****er sign and I guess my response just depends on my mood, most of the time I shall just carry on my way or I shall return them the hand gesture back. :D

Sometimes it isn't so easy, or there isn't time, to make a full assessment of the speed of oncoming traffic, and you just have to take for granted that traffic on a 40mph limit road will be doing about 40mph and pull out, or not, accordingly. Or base your assessment of speed on that assumption. Common sense and observation, of course, override bloody-mindedness.

Yeah agreed, if I pull out amongst oncoming traffic I put my foot down just to make sure I don't delay them or cause them to slow down.

As nothing annoys me more than those who pull out on me and then I have to brake or slow down considerably to prevent driving into them. People pulling out on me don't bother me one bit if they get a move on, but when they cause you to brake its just annoying.

If they're doing 50, they may have a problem - I was in that category the other month since I was on a spare wheel. I have to say though, that these days I usually cruise on the motorway at 60/65, since you just don't have to worry about all the speed cameras everywhere, it's much more relaxing.

On Scanias, its a fuse which is on the same circuit as the indicators, which is not good! -they put it on that circuit to stop drivers pulling it... - not that I've tried... ahem. ;)

Awaits "truck drivers don't indicate" remarks.... :D

One hand on the wheel, the other throttling a prostitute, they're clearly too busy to indicate.

Most annoying for me are folk that pull out with plenty of room but then dont accelerate, just mildly throttling and changing up gear at 1500 RPM. Mean while everyone catches up and have to break.
They may be driving with fuel efficiency in mind but forcing other drivers to brake is wasting their fuel economy.
