Why do people smudge the reg plate when posting images online?

I'm fairly sure that is a proper symbol

I wasn't aware ! followed by = was a proper method of communicating 'not equals', just a lazy internet way of typing it...

You obviously don't do much programming then :)

Lol, hows the weather up there on your pedestal?

Wonderful, no rain because all the clouds are below me. It's nice having such a high pedestal. I also have small underfed Ethiopian slaves to climb up the ladder and bring me food. You should come and visit some time, you might like it.

I dont have a mate at the DVLA. ;)

Its as easy to go around finding peoples addresses as going to a supermarket and looking for numberplates.

That was my point

there are pics of my car in this months vw driver magazine with my plate on display.... i hope i dont get cloned lol

maybe the NIP i got in the post the other day wasnt really me it was a clonez due to people seeing my number plate

my car isnt parked in the garage at the minute.... i hope no one see the number plate when its parked on the street either

I don't really care if my plate is on the internet but I do normally blur my plate when putting my own pics online. I only do it in case someone searches for "Steel grey bmw" to look for a plate to clone and then finds my car. It would probably never happen, but normally when I post picture on the net I shrink them anyway, so running a quick smudge over the plate takes about 5 seconds extra, hardly any effort.

!= means not equal to :p
Gosh you geeks and your programming language, next you'll be setting up some kind of forum for you all to write on and have conversations about your various hobbies.

I blurr it to stop people searching for "Red FIAT Punto" in google images and my car coming up

 but it would come up? It would just come up with a blurred plate? your blrring the plate in the pic not blurring the whole pic!
