its been on the radio all day.

Give the lad a rest, not playing vs Egypt is NOT going to jeapordise his world cup spot. why not just let him have a 100% rest.

he is clearly englands no.1 striker, why dont they use the opportunity to test the 'rest' of misfits ??

rooney has just played a cup final has champs league coming up plus touhg premiership run in...

WHY IS IT A BIG DEAL THAT HE NEEDS TO PLAY vs EGYPT?

He wants to play against Egypt, he wants to play every single game he can. As a fellow Utd fan I'd prefer if he didn't play as I don't want him to burn out or get an injury with the business end of the season approaching.

I agree, I'd like to see us try our other options and see how they work together. And by that, I mean stick Heskey in a cage somewhere until the world cup is over.

i know but its like hourly radio updates - WILL ROONEY BE READY FOR EGYPT?

The race is on for ROONEY TO BE FIT FOR EGYPT

N.B he definately SHOULD NOT be playing against egypt, they suck, he will prove nothing.. its the rest of the team who need to start proving things. In champs league, league and previous games we know exactly what rooney can do!

100% agree.

We should be finding out who can do the business as #2 striker, not risking Rooney in a meaningless friendly.

Playing Rooney in a meaningless friendly can only spell bad news for him...theres every chance he could get injured badly...and that would be such a shame for Utd wouldnt it??:p

Personally i wouldnt risk him...not worth the chance of him getting injured.

Even ignoring the fact that United need him, would you like to see him not go to SA because of a pointless game? :)

This isn't exactly the media at their most crazy, but it's pretty stupid. I reckon give the likes of Zamora a shot and rest Rooney, no good can come of him playing really, who cares if he scores in a friendly vs Egypt, we know what he's capable of

We still need to find Rooney a strike partner. Not that I think he should play, but it is a valid reason to play him.

Your point still stands, but i believe zamora is injured.

Because everyone wants to see if he can carry his form into the England setup.

Why not let all the first team players rest?
we know what he's capable of
For utd yes, for England not so much. On form he's the best striker we have at the moment but we still need to make that work with the rest of the squad.

Oh, and I'm going to the game and I want to see some goals :p

because rooney is carrying an injury and shouldnt be risked in something so trivial. he didnt even start the cup final - he shouldnt be started for england, but i do understand the need to find a partner for him...capello beter not go for the 45rooney tactic.

im wondering if the sponsors are having a shout in this, obviously rooney playing is a big draw to viewers etc

You asked the supermarket girl out yet?

I would like to see a crouch defoe partnership, see how they get on for England, they play together at spurs...

And how better than to test if a #2 striker can play well with Rooney than by, err, playing Rooney?

I think I have an aversion for international friendlies, imagine if Rooney plays and does his ligaments like RvP did in a stupid friendly? Man Utd's season is over and England's world cup becomes a disaster. Sometimes it's just not worth risking your best players, it's not like Egypt's defence are going to be a true test anyway so it's not exactly going to provide that much good.
