I am normally one for reading rules and T's/C's, but it puzzles me as to why they have to be so drawn out. I'm not taking a swipe at LOTRO but I'm using them as example. T's & C's here. Then I'll break some if it down:
IMPORTANT — READ CAREFULLY (word count 494)
Turbine is a gaming company with their HQ based in Westwood, Massachusetts. The service includes but isn't limited to online games. They own the rights to the photographs, stories, dialogues, concepts in LOTRO blah blah blah. You only have the right to play the game once you've accepted the ToS.
TERMS SUBJECT TO CHANGE (word count 202)
Indeedy, ToS can be subject to change. Why 202 words for this?
Privacy Policy (word count 307)
You consent that Turbine can collect personal information and disclose it without prior permission. Information may be stored outside of your home country.
User Accounts, Passwords; Security (word count 615)
To access LOTRO, you need an account with Turbine, complete with accurate details. You can't use anyone else's account and you can't sell/distribute yours. Don't use a nickname that is already taken, or take offensive names. Usual stuff. You agree that Turbine can publish your character info. You are responsible for account security, which includes following standard computer security measures. You must notify Turbine in the event of account theft but they're not liable for loss of in-game items.
And it goes on. I could break it down, but that would defeat the objective of my post and make it TL
R. Ironic really
What do you guys think? I know they're doing it to cover their backs but you gotta admit that my effortless break down is easier to read? My idea is not to beat around the bush, while maintaining all of the rules, in a way that a player can play the game without breaking a rule.
