Why do you keep fit?

As title, all gym rats and anything else you might do. Why do you do it? Do you like to look good for the oposite sex, do you like to have the extra strength available when the situation arises, is it just so you stay thin?

I suppose this stems from reading the quote:

"keep fit, eat healthy, die anyway."

I like to fight (I compete in San Shou) and I'm not going to do very well carrying lots of fat or having no cardio fitness. :) Doesn't hurt to keep yourself looking good though. :)

I've often asked myself this, and you know what? I can't answer it. With running and rowing and badminton, I keep pushing for better times or a better game but I don't know why - it's not like I'm ever going to be a professional.

I exercise constantly, maybe its a way of preventing boredom, or becoming sedentary. It does make sex better, make you look better and improve your way of life (imo), but thats certainly not why I do it. Maybe I like punishing myself.

That or I'm secretly waiting for someone to say 'Thats it, one more set and we can hit the showers!' whilst slapping my lycra.

I started mountain biking at the start of this year and although I'm a regular at the gym I found that in the 'real' world my fitness was very much lacking. I've set myself an objective this year to be fitter than the people I go riding with.

This means I push myself harder at the gym, ride at the weekend and have just started cycling to work once a week.

Used to be to look good basically. But for the past year i've all but stopped working on weights and just concentrated on cardio to keep myself fit for squash as I play in the local leagues.

I never kept fit, always did well with the women and life was good. Then I hit 30 and looked down at my MASSIVE beer belly ( ;) ), and realised that I had split up with my missus after 6 years and had let myself go a bit. How was I to tap birds I thought, then the answer came to me. The gym.

I only do cardio, and I stay in reasonable nick. I'm not a fitness freak or anything but I look okay for a 30 year old and still do well with the women. Basically my reasons are similiar to the above: Look decent, feel great, and get birds. I would say I only do enough fitness to balance out my drinking and prevent myself growing another beer belly.

Is that shallow? Yes it is, but I'm happy! ;)

Because I LOVE a good endorphin rush.

there is that as well, its an excellent feeling.

the last thing i will ever be is sexy in the conventional way of looking (i will never be a cover model for example, but some weird people may find me sexy because they like bloaters!), so being sexy is not a goal of mine :D

Love going on my bike off road, an enjoyable form of exercise, and to stop gettin to the size i was when i was at secondary school again.

It makes me look and feel better which is a good point. Plus I like it when my housemates praise me for going even though they can never be arsed. :p

It is also insanely addictive at times. Even if I can't be arsed to go sometimes I will anyway as I know I'll enjoy it once I am there. :D

Good inspiration guys!

I'm not as half as fit as I was last year where I used to cycle everywhere....

I think I'm gonna have to start going for longer blasts again. :)

I exercise because I enjoy the feeling I get after a good workout. I also do it because I like learning new skills and the social aspects of physical hobbies (breakdancing, mountain biking, capoeira etc). I absolutely hate going to the gym and unless you have a very limited amount of time I see no need for it.
