Why do you not support your local team?

when i was young the only football i new about on the tv etc was premier league, i made ryan giggs my favorite player so supported the team he was in, that was 13/14 years ago.

when i found out about wigan athletic a few years later i started supporting them too since they are my home town team.

but your not allowed to support two teams on here so i will stick with manu since they were first.

Yep. From Sheffield and if someone mentions United round these parts I assume they mean the Blades - and I'm a Wednesday fan. Having said that if it's on the telly - I assume they mean Man U. Context is everything.

Got annoyed recently reading newspaper reports of the FA Youth Cup final and one of them wrote wrote about the two teams as "United" and "Sheffield".

Anyway - I was sort of a glory supporter. Sheffield United were technically closer but my great grandfather was a scout for Wednesday. Took no interest in football until I was about 11 and started researching teams to put into Sensible Soccer. Then started playing football and supporting Wednesday. I credit that game with me not being about 30 stone now. Back then Wednesday had recently won the league cup, promotion to the top division, playing in europe and in my first supporting season got to two cup finals. It's all been downhill from there.

Edit: I'm actually the Sheffield Wednesday supporting equivalent of a lapsed Catholic that turns up and Chrismas occasionally, and maybe Easter. Not got to many games in the last few seasons. Football attendance is too expensive, even in the lower leagues.

Hi five for another Wednesday fan :)

Cost me £426.50 for my season ticket this season. Depressing to pay that to watch that level of awful.

Always supported Arsenal, however I often go down to watch city, even though they keep on breaking my heart :( could always travel slightly further to watch prem football now though.... :)

You dont appreciate the highs without having the lows, I was at the 1980 Anglo Scottish cup final St Mirren vs Bristol, one of my earliest football memories :)

Agree entirely, it's just not as much fun if there isn't at least a decent chance you'll bugger it all up :D

I think that's why for me the championship is one of the best leagues in the world to watch. The football is not of the best standard, but from one week to the next you have no clue who is going to beat who.

If it wasn't for the fact that the money would secure our future and that there is always the desire to play the best teams, I'd in many ways rather city stayed in the championship then got to the premiership where money is the be all and end all and fans get done up like kippers if they want to watch their team.

I support Tottenham because I've always tended to go against the crowd. At my primary school in North London, pretty well every boy supported Arsenal.

But due to my nature, and to the initial despair of my father, I decided to go with the alternative, in spite of the fact that Arsenal were riding high in the First Division, and Tottenham were playing in the Second Division.

I've stayed with Tottenham ever since, including after moving away from London.

I grew up in Stoke Newington and supported Arsenal. I then moved when I was 11 to Charlton and started supporting them. I was a season ticket holder for many years.

I support both. I know there will be a million people say "You can't support 2 teams". but you can imo. But they are both my local teams. Dont forget, the gooners originated from my neck of the woods.

but why not support your "local" team, you never go to OT, forverskysports so why not go to DW, its what 5-6 miles from you and £20 to go

herp derp

Its because if the local team is complete CRAP and cant even play football why would you want to Support Swindon Town?

They used to be amazing in the 90's. Just look at them now.

Supporting your local team isn't about whether they are 'crap' or 'amazing' it is because they are YOUR team. Whatever the plastics say you can never have the same emotions when watching some random team you've picked on Sky Sports.

I go to Stoke games a few times a season because my wife is from there. Yes I enjoy it, the atmosphere in the Britannia Stadium is great, but at the end of the day nothing compares to watching Newport County.
