Why does 80's music get such a bad rap?

It's OK, he regained his manhood by riding motocross and opening a bike shop, then lost it again recoding with Jedward, you wouldn't be able to make a bigger joke than that.
 
...and House Music was my life from mid 80's to late 80's (hence the username), proper Chitown House, none of that AssssEEEEEED crap. :D
 
I was born in 1987 yet I'd guess >90% of all the music I listen to is from the 80s. I didn't plan it that way of couse, I just prefer music from that era, and on both sides of the pond... Metal, funk, pop, synth, house, high-energy. All better in the 80s!

Edit: I can thank Google Music for recently suggesting some awesome tracks by Tears for Fears and Talk Talk - how am I only just finding out about these bands? :D

I love that song, but constantly get in trouble for singing at work as my Italian boss doesn't have a sense of humour.

What I think made the 80s a great decade for music is that there was such a wide choice of music. Even Top Of The Pops was worth watching bad then.

90s were pretty good with Grunge, Madchester and Brit Pop kicking off.

But those scales are tipped far over to the opposing side by the non-commercial likes of Gary Numan, Joan Jett, Alanah Myles, Whitesnake, The Sisters Of Mercy, Bauhaus... and just about everything else in my record collection! :cool::D

Metal was at its most innovative in the 80s. This is not a point for discussion, it is fact.

Also, as others have said, from who does the 80s get a bad rap? It was incredible.

I dunno, I happened to quite like some of CC Catch and Pat Benatar's outfits!

But another reason why it was good - no on-stage autotune! Below is an excellent example of live vocals by Rhett Forrester from Riot who actually had talent [RIP]. No cushioning by modern tech. If you couldn't sing, you couldn't get up on stage.


One of my favourite examples of this in rock is Eye of the Tiger. Such incredible vocals, no autotune.

But it didn't get a bad rap. I love '80s music, even if I was born in '89.

Two words: Vice City.

Also, a lot of the music coming out, especially towards the late end of the '80s, was brilliant, especially when you look to the industrial and power electronics side of things.
