Why does core 3 always run cooler?

In acme's chair.
When idle core 3 runs about 6°C cooler than cores 0, 1 and 2.

Right now my temperatures are 31°C, 32°C, 31°C, 25°C for example.

Is this normal?

My CPU and cooler setup are in my sig.

It's normal. No idea why it does it. Probably the core is full on idle while the other cores is doing very light background idle tasks? No idea...

From what I remember that's normal. Something about sensors sticking in one or more core. My 2550k does exactly the same, as did my Q9450 and Q6600 before that. I always keep an eye on the "hottest" core and gauge my temps off that.

Ah yeah core3 runs the coolest on my i5 2500k too, how odd.

The thermometers are really unlikely to be accurate to within +/- 5 degrees at low temperature.

They're only used to throttle the chip when it gets around 100, so they're only remotely accurate around 100 degrees. There's a good chance the measurement is wrong by 2 or 3 degrees even at the design point. 60 degrees below that? You may as well guess room temperature + a bit with much the same confidence in the figure.

Core 3 might be cooler. Or it might be hotter. You just don't know. Nor does it matter.
