why does everyone here have 2 monitors?

One of my Mac Pros at work has 6 x 19" monitors. But that is for a very specific use (running sound and video effects for theatre shows). I use 5 of the monitors as preview monitors for projectors, and the 6th one for running a program called qlab. :)

I use 3 and usually when browsing the net i have firefox on the main screen, media player on the right and chat/monitoring software on the left.

when gaming if im not playing in eyefinity then i have game on main screen chat on left and browser/media player on the right

I find it very tricky to work without a second monitor and at home I like to have one for watching iplayer etc on.

Once you go two its very hard to go back.

Agreed. I tested with a dual monitor from my old flatmate, and after that, I had to buy a second monitor. Being able to watch movies/iPlayer and game is excellent :)

Also, I am hoping it will come in handy for doing circuit design and programming for uni.

I bought a Dell 2209WA awhile ago and relagated a Samsung 2032BW to secondary monitor duties. The downside is that I notice the flaws of a TN panel more than I did before, the upside is that I can have apps. or video (Delicate Sound Of Thunder at the moment) on the Samsung while I play, surf or whatever on the Dell.
I've never thought of doing what John24 does with the F1 feeds, but from now on I guess thats another use for me.

Hmm thats boat Im in, only got one (HP LP2475W) quite fancy the idea of a 2nd monitor but cant justify the cost of a 2nd identical monitor and pretty sure a lower quality one will annoy me more than be useful (yes Im anal like that)

18 monitors at work and there all Dell 2209Wa's.

I do have 2 monitors at home, but I decided to remove one of them as I have an HZ281 and a 930Bw, and it just didn't look right, so I just have the HZ281 on my desk right now. :)

OMG!!! 18 monitors!!!

I have a 24" for gaming web browsing etc and my old 19" non widescreen for watching tv, films etc on.

Really handy when farming / questing on wow, just have tv or a film on the second. Also really great for checking temps and stuff while in game.

I only have an LG 23" TN panel screen at the moment, and have always wanted two screens. Think I might plonk out the cash for a Dell U2410 and see what all the fuss about IPS screens is about! :p

I have two monitors at work, just like other people on here mainly due to development and coding. It is quite a luxury to have, it probable speeds up development time but I doubt by very much.

At home I have one 24" monitor, I actually don't see the need for two monitors at home, when I am running games I pefer to run them in a window anyway, so its easy to have mutiple windows running, also with XP mode in windows 7 you can have have full screen play running in the emulator window if you want also.

I vaguely remember a study a while ago that concluded a second monitor increases productivity by 33%. Not sure how true (or accurate my recolection) that is though.

The first study revealed that the users' productivity increased by 9 percent. Further studies showed even greater increases - at times up to 50 percent for tasks such as cutting and pasting. Mary Czerwinski, the VIBE research manager, is excited about her group's discoveries, asking, "If you're able to squeeze 10 percent more productivity out, do you know how much money that will save?"
