Why does google earth look so poor

Depends on where you live I suppose.

The VE pictures for me look to be about 2 years old for the sat picture and 1 year for the birds eye fly by.

I'm suprised the images are 10 years old, using your location of sawley from your avatar there is Birds eye view pictures and they only started doing the flights to add those a couple of years ago...

take a look at Ema airport(castle donington), the DHL building at the far left
its still being built and so is the runway extension
runway was finished in late 99 and the dhl building early 2000

lookiing at the birds eye view of my house, i`d say the pic was taken before 2003, as my old car(that didnt run) isnt there
