why the hell do i have to spend about 5 minutes plugging, unplugging and 'trying to connect' to live when i have switched my 360 off from the mains?

you know the light on the adapter? it doesnt even come on, in red, until you have fiddled with it for 5 mimutes... then it lets you connect then goes green.. youd expect more for a £60 adapter although it probably cost about £1 to manufacture.

Have you tried in in all USB points? If so I would return it for replacement.

its like 3 years old, its always done it though... not a major issue though.

It hasnt been a problem, because it only happens when i swicth it off from the mains socket, i leave it plugged in with mains power going to the power brick its fine.

If i switch my 360 off using the button on the front of the 360, and then unplug/switch off the mains it takes 5 mins to fiddle with before it springs to life when i try to log back on.

i thought it might be some sort of crappy MS authentication stuff.

^ I've got an MS adaptor that's coming up for 2 years old, and it works perfectly. Doesn't display the behaviour your talking about. Sounds as if you got a 'Friday afternoon' one.

Mine does this too if I actually remove the plug but as you said is fine when just turned off. Thought it was just a common issue, to be honest though I don't unplug my 360 all that often.

Hmm, mine is uber fast, as soon as I turn the 360 its working and as soon as the dashboard comes up its connected to live.

I only bought it last month for £34 brand new

^ Yes, yesterday - Xbox 360 was unplugged, then plugged back in, turned on by holding down the guide button on the pad. Logged into Live in a matter of seconds, whilst I didn't time it, it was as quick as normal.

Adaptor plugged into the USB port at the back of the machine. Normally no other USB devices plugged in, but occassionally there might a Rockband Guitar plugged in as well.

Appreciate you didn't ask me, but I figured it might help you.

This might not be the fault of the wireless device but the router it's connecting to.

What type of encryption are you using?

Have you checked that the router you are using has no conflict issues with the Xbox as not all routers worked 100% with the XBox wireless adaptor.

Hmm. I moved my 360 yesterday from my Uni house to my parents house and had it unplugged till this morning.

Took me about 5 minutes before it would even recognise it was plugged in (the red light) after pulling it out, powering off, plugging in, powering on it finally worked.

Swordfish I don't think its the router in either cases as we are having issues with it actually being recognised by the 360. Once its "alive" it connects to the network instantly.
