Why does LINX make the cpu run so hot?

As title, im curious, prime or intel heat test gets to about 62, but I fired up linx and it got to 78 , having to lower my overclock and reduce volts as much as poss, was running 4.05ghz now 3.9ghz, not a massive drop but id rather have stability.

interesting, im doing both I think on this CPU, its a weird one, 4ghz it gets to 78, 3.86ghz where im at now is 66c, however thats the 'CPU' temp in CPUID Hardware monitor, however the 'core temps' listed 1-6 under the tab AMD Phenom II X6 1055T all list temps at 46-47c, so im not sure what temp sensor I should be reading here, whats the critical temp ? the 6 individual core temps or the 'general' cpu temp, which is now 68c.

Hmm this is concerning, how will it throttle itself though if it cannot get an accurate temp reading? I'm currently trying to get both prime and linx stable. I started by decreasing the clock speed down to 3.8 and decreasing the voltage to 1.39v, now I'm slowly increasing the volts until it's 3.8 stable, and then increasing the clock speed in small steps until a reasonable ghzVSvolts balance is found.

What's the max volts again for a 95watt 1055t? Heatsink is a silver arrow, temps read 70c on 'cpu' 48c now across the 6 cores, is the latter likely to be the real temp?

95W does 71c as its safe temp. Older CPU's used to throttle at like 68c, like my old 125W 1055T.
It's the CPU temp that should be listened to lol.
It's my old chip, at 4.375GHZ I only hit 59c under a 120.2 RAD.

Hey dude , hmm wonder if the silver arrow just isn't good enough then, should be good though ? 4ghz as said hits 78c, but it doesn't throttle at that temp so is it an accurate reading ? The core temp is at 47-48 there though ?

Hmm proper proper confused now, the silver arrow is bolted on to its limits, i.e. the screws wont turn any more so its defo in good contact, using arctic silver 5, is it the 16gb of ram heating up the chips mem controller perhaps ? so my 78c is accurate then Martin? its obviously not that high now as iv throttled back, hmm ill replace the fan 'back and above' the heatsink tonight when I get home from work, its only a quiet 'silent' one, ill get one with more beefy airflow.

If that doesn't work I suppose I Could look at water cooling, get a 120.3 radiator and a pump/cpu block/tubing of your recommendation?

Yeah, also below the heatsink is the 4 dimms and the cpu socket which is all 'boxed in' due to those componants, so little air flow is happening, I may switch to water for better cooling and an 'open' socket and dimm area with which I can hover a 120mm fan over to keep excellent air flow

got it linx and prime stable at 3.85ghz, 75c in linx after 12 hours, managed prime for 10 hours and got 69c.


Proper somethings up given the normal temps what a silver arrow can manage usually, I have no clue what it is though, im 99.9% certain its bolted down properly, I think ill try reseating it tonight.

Granted the PC is in a large loft cupboard, but its well ventilated and never effected temps really on previous builds iv had.

What's the Vcore under load?
LLC can boot it up like 0.06v more, which is quite a lot. can take it up an extra 10c.

I think its between 1.44-1.46, but im at work so will have to check later

I thought LLC was meant to stabilize the voltage, not increase it?

Yeah it does stabilize the system, but in doing so it can and does feed more power to the CPU to keep it stable.

No idea unfort, it seems there funny things, mines now stable at 3.85 but 1.42 yet still hits 71 on LINX
