Why does me wanting some quiet make me a pariah?

Buy him some good headphones (let him choose them) then say you expect him to use them !
I get annoyed when my gf boy has his telly to loud ,I lost it with him a while back and called him all sorts felt really bad later ,I have fitted auto door shutters in all the rooms now ,that helps !
I've got a real mental problem with noise though !

1. I did ask him to turn the bass down on the subwoofer. It wasn't the volume that was a problem.
2. He has a set of my Sennheiser HD 415's on his desk.
3. Who cares now as he has gone out and I can pork his mum on his computer chair!

I had a lot of animosity towards my step dad, you can't help it when your 18, it gets better though. I always moaned about him to my mum and it wasn't fair on her. Its always a lose lose situation nothing ever really works at solving it.

At 18 he should have enough sense and respect to understand that his music is loud enough to be heard by others. He knows exactly what he is doing.

And in 1991 (when I was 18) - they had headphones (and I used them when I wanted to hear my music the best way to listen to it) - If someone older than me asked me to turn it down, I would have.

If you ask me, he is just testing you and his mum to see how far he can push you - see who's boss in the house / see what he can get away with. And doing that at 18 is a little immature to be honest. Most teens do it at 13-14 ;)

Music is so much better when listening on a decent pair of headphones that cover the whole ear. But ah he is only 18, he doesn't do it often? Wouldn't stress too much..

What kinda music is it?

If it is your house, you can tell your kid where to shove it, if hes just being an unruly teenager tell him simply he can follow your rules or leave, if he doesn't, out the door his stuff goes.

How old is the kid?

Thank god your not my Dad ;)

I used to have this same old argument with my Dad all the time, then pointed out that he'd have to talk to ym sister too, who was playing he rmusic louder than I was. In the end I just bought what looked like a smaller set of speakers, but tthe output was bigger than the ones he was moaning about :D

Although more often than not I slap on my Sennheisers anyway :) best way to listen to music loud whilst not upsetting others.
