Why does most stuff look better in 1080p than in 2160?

If you set the Q box to 1080 you can't watch any UHD stuff. It will say you need a UHD TV

I have LG CX and the UHD looks miles better than the HD stuff.

Watching non UHD stuff selecting the box at 2160 or 1080 makes no difference to the quality
So nothing has changed the sky box has to be set to 2160p to gain access to the UHD content, pointless setting the q box to 1080p to let the TV scale then.

Yes, unless I'm doing something wrong. If I select 1080 then go to a UHD channel it just says you need a UHD TV to view this content.

Why cant you view 2160 content on a 1080 tv, because surly it will just scale it down to 1080, no?
Yes because the TV can't do it, my post above yours, I have a UHD TV but was trying something another poster mentioned, seeing if the TV can upscale it to 2160 instead of the sky q box.

I have noticed that a lot of tv's you buy now comes with rubbish powersaving mode enabled, making the picture quality even worse out of the box.

No, but with it being the tv in the main sitting room I cant be always changing it between HD and UHD, so I just leave it on the HD on sky q, as there's not much UHD being aired atm.. But I just think its kind of bad if you have a 4k tv and have it setup in 4k, but the non 4k content looking noticably worse then in the non 4k setting.. I wonder when 4k becomes the standard in a few years will the quality of 1080p and lower content improve when tvs are set to 4k,, I noticed this a few years ago bewteen 720p and 1080p, that 1080p didn't look as sharp and good as 720p
If they didn't have the power saving mode as the standard they wouldn't be allowed to sell the TVs thanks to the EU because power usage. That is why it needs to be defult and you have to change it unfortunatly.

And yes it the awful sky box upscaling. I haven't had for a few years but the SkyQ box was rubbish and much better just leaving it on HD and upscaling through TV unfortunatly. It is partly why paying for UHD is waste. If the box allowed for passthrough without upscaling of the HD content and then you could upscale through the TV instead and then leave UHD on then it would be fine but this is not the TV but the Sky Q box issue.

Edit: also the SkyQ box will never upscale as well because it doesn't know panel settings and so has to do a kind of generic upscale that never works as well as TV native because that is specific to the panel itself (or chip to brand at least).

Why wpuld it matter? Imo upscaling to 4k is the same pixels, and in theory should be the se information that it's upscale, just depends what does a better job, and in my case it was the tv. I agree about passthru though, seems a bit of an odd one.
