Hi there,

My pc has always seemed to take ages to boot up and it is a very high spec with a samsung 250gb evo ssd, i7 4770k, 16gb ram, 970sli, Asus Maximus Vi Formula motherboard.

I just installed a ssd in my old laptop to give it a new lease of life and it boots up in less than half the time of my powerful desktop rig. What is going on? lol

Using windows 10.

Solved

Portpunter - "I seemed to fix it by going in to BIOS, and setting the USB configuration Legacy USB support to disabled also set Intel xHCI to auto instead of smart auto."

It would have helped if you had said how long its taking.
Have you checked what software is loading in your startup ? (msconfig)

I think he might have blistering windows speed, but doesn't get that a big fat all seeing all dancing mobo can take ages to post, esp if set to look for hdd and fdd and dvdrom drives every boot.
Trim your bios options, configure and save as much as possible reduce the timeouts on things, deactivate whole sections if you don't actively use them.

Make sure SSD is set to first boot device, disable boot from other devices, enable fast boot, and turning off any flash screens will normally help

I had this when I had my 4 gig HDD hooked up to my PC, with it it took about a minute, when I unplugged it it took about 15 seconds......I never did bother figuring it out.

Thanks all for the help. Will look into it when I get home from work.

I had always assumed it was slow due to lots of hardware, but I was quite alarmed when I saw how fast that old laptop booted up. Always worth asking, could have been an easy bios fix

It does seem to be taking a long time. My rig in sig takes 22 seconds from pushing the power button to the windows screen saver screen thingy. I have 1x SSD (OS) and 4x mechanical hard drives connected, along with my monitors usb hub, a keyb and mouse.

What have you got connected?

Sometimes a motherboard power supply combination can cause a long boot time.

Can you see which bit of the BIOS it is waiting for?

Is there an option to turn the Asus Logo off and show the POST screen so you can see what the delay is or try pressing TAB when it shows the Asus Logo ?

That is so wrong.
