Why does my Live headset Echo ?

I can't play any game online, without everyone moaning about my mic.
I can see the speak animation when playing GOW next to my portrait when other people speak.

Is my mic a duff one, or is there something I'm missing.
Turned my volume down all the way, no luck.
Tried muting myself - doesnt work either.

Any suggestions?

you dont happen to really be a whiney american boy in disguise do you? because thats what annoys a lot of people.

if you have the speech coming out of your speakers then it will go straight back into your mic, causing echo. If that is the case you should switch to have the voices play out your headset - or turn your speakers down.

Have you tried turning the volume down through the guide button/personal settings?

I think if you turn the volume down to about 7 it sorts it out.

Or it could be someone elses settings need changing.

I tried all of the above - when setting it to low, I can't actually hear anyone speaking at all.
Just played a co-op game with some random people (tried 3 different people) and nothing worked, couldnt hear them if i turned it down.
Yes I know speakers out loud will cause echo, but that's not it

I'll refrain from retorting sarcastically to this post and give you the benefit of the doubt. I'm probably older than most on Live and deeper voice to boot.
No I'm not a whiney american kid, I dont actually want to talk, just want to listen or be able to join with my real friends when they get online again.

Am I expecting too much from the headset, having used Ventrillo/Teamspeak/Skype/Xfire (high bandwidth) on the PC before.

So far loving live, but voice comms is beyond crap.

I had a similar issue when I first tried out my 360. From trial and error I worked out it was my router doing it. How, I don't know. But when I moved the router away from the 360 to the other side of the room, the echoing stopped! Whether the router was emitting wireless interference upsetting the mic/Xbox wireless controller connection, I don't know...

Well in that case you could just mute the mic.

Its possible its faulty, never heard of it before though. Your experience is definitely not how its supposed to be, voice chat is pretty damn good on 360 other than the previously mentioned whiny American 11 year olds :D

I have muted the mic - didn't work though :(
Guess I'll try and get hold another one. How are the new Wireless ones?

Ive now used 3 of the 360's wired headsets. One came with original 360, one with the live vision camera, and the third with a second machine. Out of the three, one would constantly give echo as you describe. There was nothing I could do to stop it. Other two worked fine, so my assumption was, well, they arnt the greatest manufacturing feat ever(as befitting the machine).

As for the wireless ones, a friend tried one, returned it to store within 3 days, tried a replacement and returned that for a refund. All sorts of noises coming from that.

And just to balance out any negativity apparent in this post, I love my 360(s) , dead ones an all.

I think the headsets and the voicecom on live is just poo tbh. the speech is really broken up and the connection to the controller is worse than something you could buy off a popular auction site for 99p from hong kong.

Think i have the same problem as someone was complaining about my mic the other day. Is there no way to use a regular headset from your pc to play the game sfx and voice whilst playing like you would in any other online game such as CSS?

Think what I'll do if im playing with mates, is be on usual PC voice comms while we play 360, as most of them play it on PC monitors.

I play on my monitor but then you cant use your pc at the same time surely ? or can you switch between screens? i have the xbox on vga and my pc on the dti socket.

Well as long as your pc and 360 have different sound outputs then you can just turn ventrillo on then go and play 360, you dont need to use the monitor.

hmmm....I wonder which input the monitor would favour or whether having 2 inputs on at the same time might damage the monitor.

Also i want the sound from the game coming through the headset as well as the vcom. It is a bit of a design flaw on the xboxes part really not giving you the option to do that easily and making the connection size for the mic non standard
