and also btw why cant overdrive work on my system? is it not supported?

Would help if you listed your full system specs.

And you tags are wrong. You have html in the bb code. Should just be (without the star)

Also, take a look in device manager, as it may be that your chipset drivers are not installed. Is it a new install?
What does Task Manager show? It should show one CPU box for each core

in performance, you should see 2 cpu usage boxes if you have a dual core, I only have one.
oh specs:
Athlon x2 255 3.11Ghz
Asus M4N68T-M LE V2 Am3 motherboard
2GB DDR3 1366mhz corsair ram
500w Arctic freezer psu three 12V rails at 18A
Msi 460Gtx 1GB GDDR5

I seriously didn't notice that, this is quite a bit of a problem you have here mate. I don't think that the Athlon x2 255 shows up as dual though anyway. Check in BIOS?

Since you have just built it, You have obviously just installed windows.

Have you been to the motherboard manufacturers site and downloaded all the relevant drivers (ChipSet, Audio, Lan etc). And are all the devices in device manager without a Yellow Exclamation mark?

I notice you have a red cross through the action centre. Sort that out as well :)

I'm guessing you will have done this already but motherboard drivers installed? If so, open Task Manager and go to performance and each core should have it's own graph on the CPU usage area.

Where does it list the amount of cores in Task Manager?

If it shows two then both are running so not a major problem, if it only shows one then you are missing something else.

EDIT* In task manager, also go to view -> CPU History and make sure it states one graph per cpu.

I've reset the bios, and downloaded the drivers, and that seems to have worked, but why isn't amd overdrive working, as I find it difficult to overclock from the bios!

Read on a forum elsewhere that you need to disable all power management functions in BIOS to allow Overdrive to be enabled so it can then control them. My last few builds have been Intel so I've not used Overdrive myself so not sure if any Overdrive users can confirm this.

You have an Nvidia NForce 630a chipset motherboard.

AMD Overdrive only supports these AMD chipsets:

AMD 990FX Chipset
AMD 990X Chipset
AMD 970 Chipset
AMD 890FX Chipset
AMD 890GX Chipset
AMD 890G Chipset
AMD 790FX Chipset
AMD 790GX Chipset
AMD 790X Chipset
AMD 785G Chipset
AMD 780G Chipset
AMD 770 Chipset
AMD Overdrive ain't going to work.

lol I'm scared of touching the bios, may mess it up, I have overclocked with overdrive before and its really easy.
So what fan thing do I have to deactivate in the bios to make it work?

I'm only going from second hand information, I would wait until someone who has used Overdrive confirms/denies it before doing it. Also see Surveyors post, looks like it doesn't work with that chipset.

EDIT* I had started typing before you posted a response to Surveyors so ignore now.
