Why does nearly everyone hate oblivion?

Oblivion looks fantastic, but as an RPG it just failed to grab me. It lacks that 'one more level' thing that all good RPG's have. NWN2, despite all it's flaws, has grabbed me much stronger than Oblivion did.

Having said that, when the new PC arrives (mmm, conroe and 8800 goodness), loading oblivion on will have to be done :)

Oblivion hasn't got the replayability of Morrowind, never tire of Morrowind but since I did the main quest in Oblivion I haven't gone back to it.

Beautiful game but in my opinion flawed with the levelling and without the depth and imagination of Morrowind.

Recently bought Morrowind (GOTY) and I have to say that the imagination in the landscapes and towns totally eclipses anything from Oblivion. It would be fantastic to have the Morrowind landscape, towns and imagination with the hi-res textures, radiant AI, GUI and the detailed models of Oblivion.

How do you enable the distant lands in the Morrowind Graphics Extender Briton? Although the fog effect adds to the atmosphere, I would prefer the distant lands like Oblivion.

Having played Morrowind for the last few hours I have to say it has more of an atmosphere than Oblivion. Oblivion is a bit too Disney'esqe compared to Morrowind.

Absolutely love Oblivion - am playing it again now I've upgraded. One of my top games of all time - and I've been playing games since around 1982 ;)

I have to say tho, I don't even bother with the main quest - I started it but then realised I would get bored with it in no time. With my last character I just "lived" the whole Dark Brotherhood thing and have never felt so immersed in a game before. Oh, and yeah, the OOO mod is an absolute must.

TBH, I tried Morrowind and found it incredibly dull. Each to his own.

I reinstalled tonight. Just got the amulet to the priest guy, but I think I'll leave the main quest unless its any good. Is it?

I'll go through all of the brotherhoods and all those quests I never did :)

if the OOO folder is in your \data folder go into OOO folder then

OOO-full or OOO-lite folder and copy the *.esp file into \data folder

it will be there in data files on launch

You need to generate the distant lands using 'Distant land texture and mesh creator' under the tools tab. You then do the same for statics using the 'Distant lands static generator'. There are lots of settings you can change but I just left them on the defaults in the end. I did try reducing the statics to 500 but with all the NPC's, creatures, improved textures etc. that I have running I was down to Oblivion like frame rates :)

Oh and you have to select 'Distant land' and 'Distant statics' under the Global graphics tab.

Nice.

I just wish I had played Morrowind before Oblivion. But with these distant lands I am happy to play Morrowind more than Oblivion, purely because I feel like I am in an alien world in Morrowind, rather than in the New Forest like in Oblivion.

Thanks Briton. I'm looking forward to distant lands.

Is it me or are the skies prettier in Morrowind?

Wish I had more time for gaming to be honest, I'm limited to about 4 hours a week right now.
