Hello,

I built a new PC recently and it has been fine. I added a MSI NX8800GT and since then when playing games it keeps just shutting down the whole machine?!?

Here is the Spec:

Athlon 5000 Black edition
Gigabyte
4 x Mircon Major1 gig DDR2 800Mhz
MSI NX8800GT OC 512MB
1 x 120GIG SATA HDD
SumVision 500W PSU
Vista Home Premium

It happens when running COD4 and STALKER at full settings. Plays for about 5 mins then just totaly powers down.

I ran Everest Logs to see what was happening as I thought perhaps temp problem but looks ok to me. Any Ideas??

Yeah reboot right away no problem. I set the GPU Fan to 100% and CPU fan to 100% and if you look at the results above neither get over 60 Degrees. Not sure about the PSU deailts will try to find out.

Not really, especially when you have 4 sticks ram and an OC version of 8800GT. I doubt it even gives out the rated 20amp tbh. So you're running a molex to PCI-E 6-pin adapter as well?

Do you have another PSU to test it with? Temps look fine so it can't be that so it must be the PSU.

Yes I am... Hmmm I guess If I am willing to spen for the GPU i should also spen for the PSU to drive it! :-) No other PSU. Will have to go for it and buy a better one. Any recomendations as to wattage / ampage?

Thanks for all help! :-)

with psu its more about the quality a well branded 500 will put out more piwer then an unknown 500. but anyway

something around 500+ watts in good brand. liek corsair or for cheaper the ocuk own branded huntkey seem popular. depends on how much you want to spend really.

I see people are still spending good money on parts then cheaping it out on the power supply lol.

Yeah bet my bottom dollah its your PSU not giving out the wattage.... honestly you cannot under estimate the importance of a decent power supply, and that is most likely the root cause of your problems...

And even if its not that now... it will be a few months down the road, just hope it doesn't take the rest of your components with it!

If you get a nice power supply now it'll last you for a good few years possibly, before needing to be upgraded again. :)

Personally i like this for a match up between low price and good quality:
