hi, i have been looking to get 4 GB of ram for my system, i don't need it right now but i have been checking prices over the months and it never seems to drop, it seems that the prices seem to work out at about £20 per gig or £70 for a pack of 4, i would have thought with all this DDR3 out now that the price of DDR2 would drop down a bit :(

Its more likely to increase as the fab plants have now switched to producing more DDR3. DDR2 is now becoming obsolete, and the glory days of 2gb sets of ram for £20 are not going to return!

you are using DDR2

DDR3 is the current market standard so less DDR2 is being made

therefore DDR2 prices have increased.

look how much normal DDR is now for example

rare = expensive

yea couldnt believe my bruvs mate has just paid £150 for 4gig of pc3200 ddr ram.........on his p4 3.0ghz pc.....

would reather of put the cash towards a new build my self

wow, how did he pay that much!, most ddr still works out at £20/1 GB so it shouldn't have been hard to get this ram for £80

Glory days were 2x2GB kits for £30

EDIT: Were the prices also low due to some price fixing the manufacturers were doing or am I just talking rubbish? I do seem to remember reading about it somewhere I think...

I remember looking for some DDR ram as a quick "cheap" upgrade about 2 years ago only to be shocked to find out they cost the same if not more than DDR2 ram.

Looks like the same thing is going to happen to DDR2 now as the rarity goes up.

RAM has come down in proce massively during this year.

I paid over £100 for my XMS3 in January which can now be had for £76.

The weekend deal on Dominator at £64 seems like a steal now!

i saw a very good deal for corsair dominator 3 x 2 gig tripple channel ddr3 ram
for just over £100 last week....

i paid that for 3 x 1gig corsair dominator nearly 2 years ago....

ddr3 seems to be getting cheaper due to factories pouring this into the market, where as ddr and ddr2 is going the other way....

I got 4GB of OCZ Gold for like £22 or something stupid from here, then earlier this year I sold it for £80 or so. :D

I was thinking about getting some more ram for my current setup just to give it a little boost until I upgrade completely, but with how expensive DDR is now its just not worthwhile; may aswell save it for a full upgrade!

Amazing isn't it, when theres a lack of demand they hike the prices, and when theres a high demand they also hike the prices...

Thank christ its not as bad as it was with that ram shortage in the late 90's, 64mb for around £100.

I struggled to sell my 2x2GB 1066mhz Dominator's for £40 2 years ago. My current 2x2GB 800mhz DDR2 cost me £60 on the members market 6 months ago.

Unless you are desperate for it I would hold out until you can afford to go DDR3.
