Why does the UK hate cyclists?

Motorists are far far easier to identify than some Rambo style'd lycra lout with no registration number or insurance records. That is a fact plain and simple.

The government doesn't know that John from Slough likes to ride to work and his tricked out Team Sky moron bike, but he does know what cars I own, whether they are taxed and insured, and with CCTV across the majority of major cities / towns / villiages, and motorways, can work out when and where I've been travelling.

You're using some real emotive language there pal. You seem very angry. Maybe go a bike ride to calm yourself down?

Cyclists do whatever they want.

Riding their bicycles?

They dont even stick to the cycle lanes half of the time and ride in the middle of the road.

Since when is one obliged to use the cycle lanes? What if there are no cycle lanes? What if they’re crap, as they are, by and large?

Its like they own the road that pees me off.

I love the smell of generalisations in the morning. It’s a good job car drivers don’t have that attitude, huh?

You wouldn't get a pedestrian walking on the road, they stick to the footpath so why dont the cyclists stick to the cycle lane!!!!

Cycle lanes are frequently not fit for purpose and even more frequently altogether non existent.

I work in York and the place is littered with them.
I know, it’s wonderful isn’t it!

The only time i get stuck behind the motor vehicle is when that said motor vehicle is stuck behind a cyclist. Otherwise I'm doing the speed limit plus 10%
Wait, the only time you’re stuck behind a car is when that car is stuck behind a cyclist?

I knew it! Those damn cyclists are a menace!

So you brag about speeding and whine about cyclists. It’s not taking long to form a picture of you.

The same thing as when a pedestrian scratches your car.

A reasonably fit person could run after and catch a pedestrian if said pedestrian scratches a car,
good luck abandoning your car and running after a cyclist who just did it.

haha 30% of car dont have insurance anyway, so when they crush all there cars there will be much more room on the roads.

If that is true, and I have no way of knowing, although when Googling “how many of U.K. cars are uninsured” one answer citing the Daily Mail says 30%, another citing The Telegraph said that it had fallen from about 2 mill in 2005 to 1.2 mill in 2013, it would mean that as there are 36,700,000 cars registered in the U.K., if my maths are correct, then 11,010,000 would be uninsured.
With all those cop cars alleged to be fitted with ANPR, surely over 11 million wouldn’t be running around uninsured, would they?
I reiterate, mathematics are not my long suit, so I divided 36,700,000 by 10 to get 3670000, i.e 10%, then multiplied 3670000 by 3 to get 11010000, which I HOPE is 30% of 36,700,000.

It can’t possibly be that 30% of cars or drivers is uninsured. If the problem were that big they’d be stopping cars at random and asking for evidence of insurance.

The same way that if the problem of uninsured cyclists were of any magnitude at all they’d do something about it. It isn’t, so they don’t.

I have been exclusively cycling to work for the past year, and there is nothing better. It costs nothing, takes much less time and is enjoyable vs the nonsense that is driving where you seem to hate everyone else.

Yet every thread on news websites, or video websites or typical websites where a cyclist is mentioned there seems to be a natural hate towards cycling in our country. There is usually some nonsensical need for people to say bikes should be insured, or about cycling on the pavement, how dare they filter or even they should all be paying road tax even though this doesn't actually exist.

Why do you guys feel this is ?

I feel this is because cyclists are a danger to themselves and others. Roads are made for cars that travel up to 60mph, and the last thing you need to encounter on a winding country road is some buffoon struggling up a brae in the middle of the road traveling at 10mph maximum.

Cyclists refuse point blank to accept any responsiblity for their actions because they have a victim mentality. This is why they are hated, and it's also why they will struggle to comprehend the problems they create.

I also feel that the Lycra fetish isn't helping their cause one little bit.

What does a persons choice of clothing have to do with any of this? Is Mrs Miggins cycling to the shop dressed in tweed for a pint of milk excluded from your hatred?

PS. I think you need a brush to make some more sweeping statements with.

a well balanced argument you have brought to this thread string. oh no just more car driving drivel.

heaven forbid someone cycle on your rural country lane........

Winding country roads aren’t made for cars to travel at up to 60mph, they’re made for horses and carts in the 1800s and things sort of got out of hand from there. That they have an NSL sign has no real bearing on how fast you can drive on those roads. You drive to the road and the visibility and the conditions. If you’re at risk of being dangerously caught out by a cyclist then guess what, you’re driving too fast.

And car drivers have an entitlement mentality, probably on account of all the road tax that they imagine they’ve been paying since it was abolished in 1937.

Call me when you can cycle 60 miles in the rain and we’ll talk about the merits of wearing the right clothing.

Probably because obese, they know they can't cycle more than 100 yards before they cough and hack away, and know they would look like a walrus wearing lycra.

10mph? Well that must be your cycling speed (you're obese) I'm double that.

and the last thing you need to encounter on a winding country road is some buffoon struggling up a brae in the middle of the road traveling at 10mph maximum.

So you drive without being aware of any hazards that may appear?

Like I said:

Everyone's wrong, you're right... Blah blah blah.

This may actually be in the top 3 most pathetic threads on GD. Some of you should really pause and ask yourself why you post the things you do.
