Why Doesn't Evolution Get Rid of Ugly People?

How do we know ugly people haven't died out? Ok that doesn't sound like it makes any sense since we know some people are ugly (I'm reminded of this every time I look in mirror

) but how do we know standards haven't changed over the millenia? For example if an ugly person went back in time 10000 years they might be a hell of a lot better looking than 99% of people back then. A good looking person back then could be very ugly by our standards. So really I think we are evolving to be better looking, but we are moving the goal posts at the same rate.

Not particularly relevent to the article in the OP but it makes sense to me.

well ok, but where getting weaker, more genetic disorders ect. Due to are technology and medicine. Natural selection doesn't really happen for humans any more.

I would argue that our welfare state will have a significant impact on evolution.
It certainly gets rid of survivial of the fittest.

Evolution in humans i think has stopped, in a closed small population traits can take hold and be spread quicker, in a population of billions the changes reach only a handful of people and thus go unnoticed.

indeed, human evolution is pretty much dictated by whoever is in charge of a state or system....bring on the nuclear winter, that should start things up again
