Why doesn’t my GPU get hot?

Do you feel like your getting any performance loss? best thing to do is download msi afterburner and use the overlay display (OSD) to measure accurate frame rate / temperature / gpu load etc. it's possible your gpu is stuck in 2d clocks or something or isn't boosting up to full speed in 3d applications or your frame rate is limited so low that it doesnt need to boost up to max speed to produce the frames. as 46c is extremely cool.
 
To be honest I’m not sure if I’m getting any performance loss.

I’m running the heaven beanchmark, reaching very high FPS over 200 for max with ultra settings.

I have v-sync switched off.

I went onto afterburner and set the overclock profile on both 2d and 3D to the same profile, so hopefully that will demonstrate that.

So when I do all this, run the heaven benchmark the temperature sensor is maxing at 46degree C. I’m sure this cannot be right.

Just to add I have my GPU watercooled on a open loop with the CPU.

Anyone got any ideas when it’s staying so cool?

It makes me wonder why I can’t overclock it higher when the temps are so low.

I've highlighted and put in bold the reason you're running so cool on the gpu , personally i'd be quite disappointed that my gpu was running so hot , my pascal titan never sees above 40 degrees, but i'm weird like that.

If you want higher temps (better ????) crimp the inlet feed to the gpu water block and unplug the pump , you might get to see north of 80 degrees and the card thermal throttle before a pipe swells and blows off its fitting and wrecks the entire pc.

Wait a sec , i have the answer. Ignore the above and use a blowtorch on the card, i've seen 8pack and other master overclockers use blowtorches on gpu's and cpus , so it is a thing and its no coincidence that they get good overclocking and as a bonus you'll get those toasty temps you're looking for. So...

:- Blowtorch - gpu - increased temps , better overclocking = WIN

LOL at all other responses - well deserved after that revelation!

On a serious note, if your GPU is peaking at 46° (and I assume your CPU is similar), you have some room to reduce fan speeds and noise, if you'd rather have a quiet PC than a chilly one. My system peaks at 53° on the GPU but is almost inaudible even at load. It depends what your priorities are.

I didn’t think watercooling would keep it so cool because my cpu still goes really high in temperature, like plus 60 degree C. I always thought the GPU gave out more heat compared to the CPU?

It doesngive out more heat generally, but it also has direct contact between the die and cooler. Intel CPUs have an extra layer of thermal paste/TIM under the heatspreader. So that can create an extra barrier to good cooling. It's why high power CPUs are so commonly delidded now.

My 4690k and GTX 1070 are in the same loop so same water temperature, but seeing the GPU at 53 usually means the CPU will be bouncing around 57-59.

You got Intel using toothpaste like TIM between the chip and head-spreader instead of soldering to thank for that :rolleyes:

I used to have a Corsair H105 AIO cooling my high power-consuming 290x and the GPU temp didn't exceed 50C on stock clock, so with your 1080 being a lower power-consuming card max being 46C sound about right.
