Why dont dell build a glossy u2711?

It isn't necessarily a case of 'full on glossy' (which can be very impractical) and 'full on matte' any more and there are some steps being taken by some manufacturers in the right direction. I have recently discussed the appeal of Samsung's Ultra Clear panel coating and the flexibility to apply a more 'heavy' version of such a coat as well as discussing the light haze value surfaces found on the likes of BenQ's VA panel monitors.

No visible progress is being made by LG and their partners, however, to address concerns which people raise regarding the overly aggressive matte monitor surfaces used on their panels. These aren't just some nutters on forums addressing these concerns, either. I work with real people who rely on monitors such as Dell's Ultra Sharp range for 3D manipulation work and due to their business contracts they are fairly restricted in the manufacturers they can turn to. I am currently in the process of discussing these issues with Dell themselves. If this is coupled with a potentially significant loss of market share from Samsung's lower haze-value PLS panels (depending on the success of) then that tends to become even more powerful. I expect that once OLED monitors hit the high-end we will see this issue addressed regardless of current or near-future progress.
