I'm sure they're often lovely dogs but small dogs can suffer from the equivalent of small man syndrome which isn't pleasant or relaxing if you're taking them for walks. I'd also suggest checking up on the congenital problems that pugs suffer from as the selective breeding to produce them has left a fair few issues.
