Why don't I like whiskey?

I used to be fairly indifferent to it, but now I absolutely love it. I got £50 free shopping at waitrose online yesterday and have ordered Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Glenrothes single malt. Out of that lot I've only had the Laphroaig before, which I loved, so will be interesting to try the other two. I know absolutely nothing about whisky so I'm just aiming to try as many different types as I can without clearing out my bank account :p

It goes from nasty to tasty, surprisingly it doesn't get more palatable the more you spend.

il agree with that. my mates in to his johnny walker and iv tried red, black and blue and they all taste the same to me, although i like glenfiddich and i do enjoy the 18 year old + stuff. just so smooth.

The more expensive they are, the more they taste like an Irishman's Wellies after a good day walking through the bog?
Brandy on the other hand just gets more subtle.

I only have whisky because it's nice with warm water and sugar when I have a cold (and can't taste anything).

Each to their own though, there is a splendid choice for people that do appreciate it and it's a good export.

Well if you don't like it then don't drink it?

If you do like them but can't handle drinking it then drink blended whisky, add a bit of water to dilute it more to you preference, there's no need to force yourself to drink single malt. In fact even with single malt people add a bit of water, it's only the people who've been drinking the stuff for decades that prefer straight up single malt without water.

But really if you don't like it then why force yourself to like it? On a side note try "old fashioned" drink, it's based on whisky but doesn't have that burn you speak of, it's quite lovely.

Whiskey has a time and a place. It's a late evening drink and not one you drink to get you pumped, so it'll go down a badly if you try to chug it before a night out! It's best had in a small glass in the evening. Take small sips and get a feel for the taste.

If you don't like it, that's cool too.

I don't like it either. You don't have to like it. Just think of the money you can now spend on something much tastier.

I feel your pain, many a time have I sat down of an evening with my friends to sip a whisky and shoot the breeze . Problem is when I actually sip the stuff and without fail spit it out usually into a friend's eye. Horrible stuff.

Now, Bourbon, I can consume neat by the bottle.
