Some people might think sod it and buy it without waiting for the 80 series.
Surely most people who buy 80 then Titan sell the 80 anyway?
Maybe there is a genuine reason they wait?
Titan production has mostly been related to professional cards or other markets, etc. also when on a new node the first few months yields are often less than ideal and take awhile to ramp up - one little defect can mean you have to write off an entire larger core while you might still get say 3 working smaller cores. Making a smaller Titan core will somewhat tie their hands going forward though eventually they can do a lineup refresh.
Why don’t nVidia release the Titan first?..........it's called "milk that cow" terminology for leach like companies such as NVidia![]()
IIRC Titans are leftover silicon from Nvidia's enterprise compute cards, they only release them when they have built up enough spare silicon stock (presumably seconds). They don't compete with the GTXs as they're typically in a completely different pricing segment.

It actually is true. The original titan, the GK110 was originally developed and used in CRAY's Titan Super Computer. The cards it was used in were Tesla K20s in November 2012.Thats typically not true, all of the previous titans have been the same chip as the equivalent xx80ti, the one exception is the new titan v

Not sure on the Titan Maxwell but the rest have all been born from nVidia's products in professional/super computer markets.
The people who would buy the Titan tier card will buy the X80 card first because they can't wait. NVidia does this to double dip on purchases. Those same people will then go and buy a Titan when it comes out because it offers an "upgrade."
