Why I hate apple...

o2 told me exactly the same thing with the exact same picture and exactly the same repair cost and tried telling me I should have bought their £10 a month warranty and if I did I wouldn't have this problem blah blah when my new iPhone 3GS just died after 34 days of buying it with absolutely no way of it being water damage.

Booked an appointment with one of the apple stores geniuses and not long after gave me a brand new replacement.

fairly common this "water damage" not just on apple phones either.
i think the red circle detector things are far to sensitive to moisture in the air

My sister took a cell phone in for repair & mysteriously the water damage dot was there, with no damage she never used it by water. It prob. comes like that from the company, so the greedy ******* at the company can get more money.

I thought they had 3 - one at the bottom of the headphone port, one in the dock connector, and one actually inside on the main board.

Can't see one in the dock connector, and last time I took an iPod Touch in to be replaced they only looked at the one in the headphone port.

Apple's own site says the 3G and 3GS have one in the headphone jack and one in the dock connector. I've also read posts claiming there are a further two behind diagonally opposite corners of the screen, though I imagine most people will never see them and they probably never get checked as the more exposed ones will get tripped first.

I wonder if sweat can trigger the red dot? I was jogging once with my iphone in pocket and when i took it out the screen was slightly damp. I have always made sure it's dry since but it does make me wonder.

I would have thought so as as it is triggered when any water containing substance comes into contact with it.

a mobile phone is designed to be used out doors in the rain is it not? Yet it suffers from what damage? lol

Almost as bad as their "smoke" damage routine.

This is why I stick with simple phones that phone and text people!!!!

I sent my iPhone 3G in for repairs (Wi-Fi chip had died).

They said that the 30 pin dock connector was mangled, yet I'd restored it in iTunes before sending it off and knew 100% it was not in that shape when I sent it.

2 weeks of to-and-frou and I ended up paying the £140 for a replacement

I created a thread about it, if you care to share in the horror.

At what point exactly did you expect O2 to have any kind of CS?

Unless its John Lewis or somthing, now matter what the product, always, if you can, deal directly with the company.

Get the phone back from O2 without getting it repaired and take it to an apple store, explaint the situation and ask them to check the internal sensors (there are 2 underneath the LCD) if these are not orange then generally they will repair the phone for free. Don't accept any excuses and ask to speak to the manager if they are still not giving in.

water damage sensor is a joke. It should at least be inside on the mainboard. To have one in the headphone jack is an absolute joke.

Apple will never own the market with such a disabled product.

A business man who chooses to go with an iPhone can't accept a metting phonecall incase his sticker turns pink in the rain.

They already own the market.

And there is another internal sensor.

When I had a problem with my 3G (couldn't make phone calls after I updated it) I took it into the O2 shop.
I was told it would take 5 working days so on the 7th I phoned the shop and he told me apple wanted £149 due to "internal damage" I said on your bike mate I want my phone back and I want to be transferred to complaints.
He told me the number to phone and when I told the complaints department they transfered me to their repair team. I told the guy on the phone and he checked my details.
He then said that it was a mistake and they were going to replace it under warranty.
It took 5 or so weeks until I got my phone back.

I wish I had gone to the apple store
